We really enjoyed this restaurant. Food was delicious! App sampler (babaganoush/hummus/eggplant/spinach) was really good. A few of us had the chicken saute with lemon sauce and rice, others had falafel and lamb meatballs. Portions were nice siEd and prices were very reasonable for Manhattan. Service was attentive. Mice Turkish wine list too.

This place exudes Turkish atmosphere. Considering that I eat this type of food at home, everything was familiar and delicious. We ate calamari, burek, agora salad and kebabs. Of course we also tried baklava.

Cozy place for a traditional Turkish lunch. Our waiter was real and pleasant and we ordered hummus to start. The entrees of chicken shish (a bit dry) and lamb Adana (excellent) were accompanied by rice, onion salad, red cabbage, and some green pepper and tomato. The red cabbage was particularly nice. We plan to return!

Agora Turkish Restaurant, 1565 Second Ave. (between 81st & 82nd), NY NY 10028. 212 717 1228. Lunch for two, 1:30 PM Tuesday, July25. The restaurant, very nicely decorated with artworks and historical prints, was empty save for us—just the way we like it. The room is just a tad crowded and the two-tops are positively dainty. If you want elbow room, skip the busiest hours. The meal itself bordered on disastrous. The dolmas (stuffed grape leaves) were absolutely fresh but had little taste (possibly they were vegan?). My guest’s dish of okra seemed fine but my “Lamb Shish” (as it is listed on the menu) was an extremely poor performance by the (rather slow) kitchen: rice clearly parboiled and tasteless, onions and peppers skimpy, and the lamb itself done to gray, dry toughness If the restaurant and the menu hadn’t been suggested by my guest, I’ve have sent the lot back. Total cost, with two Turkish Efes pilsners (OK; nothing special) and 18% tip: $124.98. Maybe that’s why the place was empty. Frankly, I felt skunked.

First time but will not be our last. The service was excellent. Meditate was courteous, helpful suggesting dishes with a smile. The octopus salad was fresh, crispy, lovely. The falafel dishes were a nice portion and yummy, the Sancerre wine was chilled and a nice pour. Great outdoor dining. We wondered why we had never visited this gem.

Ordered take-out dinner. Food was terribly overcooked especially the lamb. Take out food never travels well in those sealed containers but when the food is already overcooked it's not worthwhile.

Authentic Turkish cuisine in an authentic Turkish restaurant. Very cosy with a nice ambiance. Friendly staff who can give recommendations freely.

We had a fine meal but nothing extraordinary. I'll probably go back at some point but it's not going to be a neighborhood favorite.

Will never come back or even try to go back here. The 2 employees are not the nicest person I met in a restaurant. Refer to the Service section. Location: It is 2nd avenue, very near to the Airbnb that I am staying at. Service: I came here today at 12 noon. Google and Yelp said they open at 12 so I came here today to order for take out. There were two girls who were arranging the chairs outside for their outdoor seating. I asked one of the girl if I can order to go. Her face looks irritated and asked me “what you want?”, then she talked to the other girl on their language. Based at the tone of her voice while talking on their language, I could sense that she was irritated that I came exact 12 noon and I could sense that she was pissed. I look at the second girl and she looked at me and looked at her watch. She looked irritated too and her face looked annoyed. The first girl asked me again “what you want?” I told her “no worries”, and I left. Food: I didn’t taste any because I left. I already predetermined what I want to buy, it was Lamb Shish, Mixed Appetizers and Baklava. Too bad I won’t able to taste it cause I am not going back. Price rating: N/A Definitely not going back or even trying to go back. Attitude of the employees has to change. So what if I came 12 noon, it says open at 12 noon right? Don’t give me that rude attitude cause I came to the restaurant as a nice customer.

Stopped in for lunch and was greeted by very friendly staff. Fresh bread came out while we evaluated the menu. Ended up ordering the falafel and mixed grill. The falafel was perfect. A couple of the meats in the mixed grill were a Ted dry, but nothing a little yogurt couldn’t fix! Overall great experience.

Warm lentil soup, cool hummus, warm bread — perfect on a cold NYC day. Pretty interior, clean restroom, attentive service. Turkish customers enjoying themselves.

I ordered marinaded lamb kebab. It tasted as bief, was not marinaded, and was dry. There were few small pieses. It was the worst kebab I had in my life. Waitress demonstrated obnoctious behavior.

We were in search of Halal bbq food and accidentally came upon this Turkish restaurant, Agora. A very warm welcome awarded to us by a smiling waitress who immediately led to our table. It was a little early for dinner so only two other tables were occupied. The interior of Agora is overly decorated with trinkets, trophies, memorabilia from Turkey. The joint gives a look more suited to a tiny museum than a restaurant. We ordered food and requested the hostess to be quick as we were famishing from roaming NYC. Bread, salad bowl, and Hummus were provided right away while the rest of the order took about 15-20 minutes to arrive. It was worth waiting for. The food platter was full of sizzling hot Kababs. The Kababs were aromatic, well presented, tasty, barbecued to the perfection, and the portion was very generous as well. The platter was enough for four hungry stomachs. Yes, Hummus and bread did help to lower the appetite but still that platter was mighty generous. In addition to food, the service was top notch and took care of us pretty nicely. Staff was not visible to us, but they kept on appearing & refilling our water/Pepsi glasses at the right moment. Very subtle indeed. The owner himself visited our table and asked if we were okay with service and food. Thumbs up for both!! 👍👍

Even though I used to live in the neighborhood this was my first visit to Agora and it won't be the last. The food was very good, the service was even better.
