During our two week stay in the East Village area of NY we tried cakes from numerous places but came back time and time again to the Magnolia Bakery for the superb carrot cake and their legendary Hummingbird cake. At $6.50 a slice it seems an indulgent treat but one slice serves two people so it's good value actually. New... More

I attempted to go to the shop on 6th Ave, but the lines were outrageous. We had dinner in the Village and walked over to this location after. It was after 9 pm and although not as busy as the other location, there was still a short wait. I am always seeking out red velvet in any city that I... More

Visiting New York this month, wanted to make a visit Magnolia Bakery to have a cupcake and sit in the park with my daughter. Well, there were NO cupcakes frosted, so we each got a slice of cake. This was around 1:30 in the afternoon, not right before closing or anything. The cake was not moist, it was crumbling apart... More

I went to this in 2013, not 15, but advisor would not allow a date change. We all tried and loved cheesecake, cookies, and the famous banana pudding! So yummy! We are heading back next month and this is a stop I have already put on the trip!! I hope my travel companions this time around love it as much... More

Although I'm an Aussie, I lived in Atlanta, Georgia for 12 years. Magnolia Bakery is the real deal. Red velvet cupcake is a must and if you want real lemonade this is the place for. Expect a little que, but it is ok because you ca way the staff make their creations.

I know their cakes and cupcakes are über famous, and I wanted to come for a long time, but I found that the frosting-to-cake ratio was not ideal: Too much frosting, and the frosting was too sweet. I can't say it wasn't good, but I don't think it's up to the hype cupcake-wise. I might go back and try something... More

Though cupcakes are likely from a box mix, the frosting tasted homemade according to my partner. I had pumpkin cheesecake that was delicious and likely made from scratch as I imagine the other desserts are. Introduced to Magnolias by friends who live in the neighborhood, great fun to enjoy with a group. Great presentation and packaging.

Magnolia Bakery at Bleecker Street offers the best cupcakes in NY. They are delicious. Magnolia Bakery became very famous thanks to Sex and the City

Staying in West Village

Neighborhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighborhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
