We stumbled across this place on a Sunday lunch time, and as it happens, that is the best time to go! A live gospel singer performs on Sunday lunchtime, which was really lovely! The food however was not for me at all. I haven't actually found any American that I rate highly, but this was pretty awful. Everything was packed... More

I have no complaints about the service or atmosphere. I just expected the kind of food my grandma would make and it was lacking there. I ordered the southern fried chicken with mac and cheese and greens. Everything pretty much needed more flavor. Once I added some salt to everything, it was okay.

My daughter and I always wanted to taste Soul food, so after church, with Harlem Sunday Morning Gospel Tour 15.2.15, we visited Sylvias for Brunch. What a great place!! Lots of people was waiting for a tabel, but luckily there where seat reservations for us. The brunch was excellent, the songs great - just as seen on TV. We will... More

As native NYers, this has been on our to do list for ages! We finally went last week before a concert at The Apollo. My husband had the smothered chicken with mac and cheese and ocra and I couldn't decide on just 1 thing so had the combo chicken and ribs with pickled beets and garlic mashed potatoes. The chicken... The rave reviews and world class reputation were not wrong-----Sylvia's lives up to them all! The corn bread, warm and authentic, could have been a meal in and of itself. We ordered the grilled porkchops, ribs, and fried chicken, dark meat. Sides were collard greens and buttered corn. The chicken was juicy, and cooked to perfection. The pork chops were... More

We walked by the restaurant earlier in the day while visiting Harlem but since we were not hungry yet we decided to come back later. The restaurant was less crowded in the evening which was great.
