We love this unassuming place on the lower east side. The portions are large enough to share and the the prices can’t be beat. Always fast, friendly service and right across the street from Economy Candy.
My family and I have eaten at Castillo de Jagua nearly every Saturday morning for 4 years. It is literally our favorite restaurant in NYC. The food is off the charts and authentic, the menu is huge, the staff is wonderful, and the facility itself...has the perfect atmosphere. It's no wonder it's outlasted almost all the other restaurants on the LES over the past 30+ years. This is a must-visit, classic LES restaurant.More
My husband and I ate breakfast here nearly every morning of our week in NYC. We were staying next door at the Hotel on Rivington and although the hotel served breakfast this was more our style. It's a simple diner with friendly staff and an...extensive menu. We had dinner there a few times as well and the food was excellent home cooking. Highly recommend especially if you're trying to save a few pennies on eating out in NYC.More
I work in the neighborhood and the food is affordable and tasty. You can't compare fast food with their food. The food is delicious and cheaper than fast food. My favorite is the oven roasted chicken with rice and pinto beans.
The mofongo is the best ever, and only like $8. I get it every single time. Also, a cold Presidente beer makes this whole thing go next level. I don't think I've ever had anything bad here. The pepper steak, the pork chop, the sancocho...and tripe soup - literally everything - is great. I have added this to my rolodex and I tell everyone about it. it's a very special place, no frills.More
