The setting of this casual Mexican spot makes you feel as if you are in Mexico! It's also got delicious entrées (especially the mole!) and fresh yummy burritos, quesadillas, etc. Great cocktails and Mexican beers too. A great weeknight place. Also great for families.

We were visiting my daughter in NYC and wanted to find a fairly inexpensive place in the Lower East Side to take 5 people to dinner. Well, we found it. It had gotten good reviews on TripAdvisor so we decided to try it. It is very small and it is a family affair. I think the owner was our server.... More

All I can say is that this place is just amazing... The food is so authentic to Mexico and the staff is just fabulous. I love the mexican moles they offer.

We came here in March 2012 when we were holidaying in NYC. It was our favourite restaurant of the trip so we had to come back when we came to NYC again this year. The place hasn't changed. Moles are amazing and better than any I've eaten elsewhere. If you're sick of chains restaurants serving up the same boring Mexican... More

We were staying in Soho and I researched the surrounding area for places to eat. We wanted to make sure we visited a "good" Mexican restaurant while we were there, and I found El Maguey y La Tuna on Trip Advisor. Let me assure you - this place does not disappoint! I've only ever been to Mexican restaurants in London... More

The food and margaritas were good - our server was very nice too. But from the reviews I expecting more than white linoleum floors, mis matched diner tables lined up in rows - zero atmosphere. If you are just looking for mexican food you should be happy enough.

Very quaint restaurant, a bit cozy and a bit romantic. The owner is a very sweet woman who seems to appreciate her guests and tries to learn more about them, where we're from and what it is like for her to live there. We ordered the "Best Nachos Ever" as said on their menu, and also split a Jumbo Chicken... More

This is my favourite of the restaurants we visited on our recent trip to New York. It's unassuming, welcoming and delicious. Our waiter was friendly and suggested which molés would best accompany our enchiladas and fajitas. After the meal (and several frozen margaritas) the owner, Maria, came and chatted to us. Highly recommended.

My husband, our teenage daughter and I were visiting NYC over the Labor Day weekend. I had looked on TA for a Mexican restaurant that we could have dinner at and found El Maguey y La Tuna. The reviews sounded great so we decided to check it out. We made a reservation for 7:30 on a Saturday night and when... More

Staying in Lower East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Lower East Side
Straddling the bridge between New York’s thriving immigrant past and its modern transformation into a beacon of global art and culture, the Lower East Side is one of the most dynamic neighborhoods in the city. The blocks of tenements that represented the promise and blight of the Lower East Side immigrant experience now command top dollar for new residents. Right next to old-world delis, 24-hour bodegas, and the garment shops of Orchard Street, you’ll find hip clubs, fashionable bistros, and luxury hotels beckoning at all hours of the evening. If you love nightlife and live music, it’s hard to beat the scene here.
