We really enjoyed this restaurant. The manager and the waiters were very nice and helpful. The food was wonderful. The best part were the fruit sherbets. Totally recommend.

There were seven of us, on a Sunday afternoon. The place was quite empty. We wanted to go upstairs, but only open at night. We all ordered different meals which, came at a reasonable time. The food was fine. The waiter attentive. He also brought all of us free ice cream, a nice touch.

If your looking for great Indian food, you found it. Staff if awesome, especially the owner I think he was. Hit McSorleys for some beers, then smash some Indian food. Makes for a great night.

We walked down 6th Street and were so disappointed to see that our favorite Indian restaurants had lost their leases and were gone. Fortunately for us, they had someone standing outside who directed us to Havel Banjara, a merger of several of the 6th Street restaurants that had moved around the corner to new digs on Second Avenue. We were... More

This location was in walking distance from our Air B& B and we were so happy to find it! We actually set off to go to another Indian restaurant suggested from trip advisor but went here instead. Food and service was above average!

In NYC with Lease Renewals putting more places out of business our last Indian restaurant we regularly visit is no longer there. This has happen more than once in the past. Fortunately there was a sign on the door directing us to Haveli Banjara just around the corner. A nice dining room along with outdoor dining available in the fair... More

Used to eat at Mitali East for 20 years. Restaurant lost lease and moved to 2nd avenue between 5th and 6th street. Name now Haveli . Excellent papadam, samosas, chicken tikka, prawns with sesame, shrimp with coconut, bread basket. Delicious food can't wait to return.

Nice spacious restaurant. The Indian food is a 7/10 for New York. Wait staff very good, but prices are what you would expect from an upscale, Indian restaurant midtown. A number of different Indian food places on this same block have their pricing a lot lower and much better deals.......I have eaten at most of them, smaller, but much better... More

This is one my favorite Indian restaurants in NYC. The food is flavorful and not too spicy and there are choices for everyone. The manager is helpful, and when we last visited (first week in November), offered us more bread than we asked for free of charge as well as dessert on the house. The restaurant itself is small and... More

This has long been a favorite, but our first trip here in a while. The food remains consistently good. This is not spice heavy, burning hot food. It is what Indian food should be very flavorful aith a mix of heat and other flavors. There are some offerings that one doesn't typically find on other menus and they are willing... More

Staying in East Village

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
