Great fries with extensive selection of sauces at this downstairs Village location. Friendly staff and friendly prices. Buy a cone of fries, a couple of sauces and stroll north to eat them in Washington Sq park. Perfect!

Literally a few steps down a small staircase into a narrow hole-in-the-wall Belgian Fries place. For anyone that likes Belgian Frites - this is nirvana. There are three sizes to choose from - Regular, Large, & Double. Trust me the Regular will easily feed one person and maybe a bit more!!! You choose the size you want at the walk... More

A gas explosion destroyed their building last spring, after 18 years in business. They are back specializing in Belgian fries and about 30 different sauces. I've explored several and like the Mango with a bit of my own mustard added in -- mayo is good as well. There is something of a Fries War in the neighborhood -- Friterie opened... More

Used to visit their old location every time I was in New York until sadly it burnt down. When I found out they had reopened at a different location I was so excited and couldn't wait to go back. Fries are just as amazing as before! Cheap and delicious and a must do while in Greenwich Village!!

After seeing great reviews we decided this was a must do while in NYC. So happy we did. Fries were delicious. Servings were huge. Make sure you ask to sample some sauces before you order. They gave a few fries and several samples to try which ones we liked best (they were all sooo good). A tip...Order some fries, then... More

I discovered this wonderful little stop four years ago while in New York City. Sadly, their original building was destroyed in a fire but the new location just a short walk away is just as charming and filled with character. The simple menu of Belgian potatoes French fried with the plethora of delicious dipping sauces is still amazing. I strongly... More

I;m so glad they're back! The sweet chili sauce is the best they have and now they've added booze, which makes it all the more better! They have the best fries in the city and the staff are so cool, always striking up a conversation and asking if you want to try any of the sauces. There's so many to... More

When prepared correctly this dish can be a sublime treat. This establishment carries it off with cozy class. At its old location on second avenue it was not unusual to find a cast of interesting individuals frequenting the front counter, as there was a theatre across the street and the players would come in for quick stew before a performance.... OMG the chips with Irish curry sauce was amazing! The only downside was we had to stuff our faces with them within 5 minutes as we had tickets to go to the comedy club however we couldn't miss the chance of savoring chips as whilst we are British we live in the Middle East so this was a rare opportunity.... Staying in East Village

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
