Had a drink and fries in the bar as we were staying next door at The Elysee Hotel. A classy dark bar, with a great ambience and very good service. Recommended!!

Was very pleased with our dinner. Excellent service, mid level noise so could speak easily, lovely atmosphere all around. Its very nice to be in a space that is not new, has stood the test of time, been renovated and kept its charm. One feels like they are in Europe and its worth the trip.

The Monkey Bar has a great history and also a colourful TV ranking (Sex & The City and Mad Men). Its a great place for a relaxed, jazz filled snack and chat in a booth with friends and a glass. We happened to bump into it as the bar in the hotel we were staying (Hotel Elysee) on 54th Street.... More

On arrival we were greeted warmly and taken to a nice seating place with a good view of the rest of the restaurant. The food was nice but a little overpriced. They kindly brought us some complimentary ice cream with 'congratulations' wrote on the place which was a nice touch. The decor was really interesting and quirky. Overall an enjoyable... More

You step down the stairs and you immediately expect to see Don Draper in the corner drinking a scotch. Great atmosphere.

Popped in here for a drink as it is next to the elysee hotel were we stayed. It is quite pricey but then so are most bars in New York. It is a lovely bar, nice cocktails, good service and a good location. We did not eat here but the menu looked excellent. Worth a visit if you are in... More

The Monkey Bar is a small, after work spot. It's overpriced, even by NYC standards. This is just a head's up. It's NOT a reason not to stop in for a drink. Just an FYI. Order the fries while you're there!

Had a quick bite at a booth (note: not the restaurant, rather the bar area) and while the ambiance and decor are old world and charming, the menu is just as dusty and boring. My husband ordered a shrimp cocktail, I ordered a simple salad and arancini balls, simply because everything else seemed so unappetizing. Sorry. With the clientele they... More

Established in 1936, Monkey Bar was returned to its former glory in 2009 by Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter.

The dining room's lush red leather banquettes and dim, attractive lighting have restored the fizzy thrill of dining in a restaurant - both attractive and cozy - and harken back to a bygone era when a gentleman never left the house without a tie and a lady always had a pair of white gloves in her purse.

Monkey Bar's menu boasts American classics alongside seasonal dishes using sustainable and organic products whenever possible.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
