We had a short time before heading to a late show and this was the perfect spot for a light dinner, drinks and lively atmosphere. The full menu looked delicious and the dining room in the back appeared full...the bar was at capacity, but it...More

I didn’t enjoy the food and wouldn’t return. The lobster bisque was ok, kind of bland. The rolls were warm but hard. The entree wasn’t that tasty. The wait staff was acceptable, but not impressive. Overall, it was meh.

After a tiring 2 hour wait to get through passport control at Newark airport, we were in need of a pick me up. So glad we decided to go to The Monkey Bar. We’ve been here before on previous trips & the atmosphere & friendly...More

The Monkey Bar was an interesting place to visit - very cool decor; great service. But the actual food left a bit to be desired. Probably somewhere to go for an informal lunch rather than a ‘flash’ dinner.

The food was somehow average and uninspiring. The interior suggest high class restaurant, but atmosphere is more of mid-level after work place. The service was inattentive.

We arrived hungry and decided to eat right at the hotel in The Monkey Bar. They were very busy and we had no reservation (make one before you go) but they were very accommodating and found us a great table in the window of the...More

The room is just wonderful. The lighting is superb. Mural is wonderful. No bad tables in the room, that I could see. Waiter was attentive and knowledgeable. But the chef has let them down. The food was just not very good. And the bartender went...More

What a fun place. It feels like a place that locals would go to. Great drinks, great food and a really great vibe. And at least when we were here there was a fantastic piano man. Nice touch.

We enjoyed a drink and snacks in the afternoon. The waitstaff in the bar are friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is relaxing after walking around NYC.

Honestly it wasn't Christmas time when we were there. My suggestion would be to contact them directly to find out. That way you can either plan for it or some other venue, as to not be disappointed. Regards, Pam

I'm not sure sneakers are acceptable, I was wearing a dress and my sister too! I saw men with suit and vest, I will suggest not so casual.

Description
Established in 1936, Monkey Bar was returned to its former glory in 2009 by Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter. The dining room's lush red leather banquettes and dim, attractive lighting have restored the fizzy thrill of dining in a restaurant - both attractive and cozy - and harken back to a bygone era when a gentleman never left the house without a tie and a lady always had a pair of white gloves in her purse. Monkey Bar's menu boasts American classics alongside seasonal dishes using sustainable and organic products whenever possible.
