We had a really good dinner and drinks in the piano bar. We would recommend trying it, as the service is also very good

Popped in here for a drink as it is next to the elysee hotel were we stayed. It is quite pricey but then so are most bars in New York. It is a lovely bar, nice cocktails, good service and a good location. We did not eat here but the menu looked excellent. Worth a visit if you are in... More

The Monkey Bar is a small, after work spot. It's overpriced, even by NYC standards. This is just a head's up. It's NOT a reason not to stop in for a drink. Just an FYI. Order the fries while you're there!

Had a quick bite at a booth (note: not the restaurant, rather the bar area) and while the ambiance and decor are old world and charming, the menu is just as dusty and boring. My husband ordered a shrimp cocktail, I ordered a simple salad and arancini balls, simply because everything else seemed so unappetizing. Sorry. With the clientele they... More

Wow! What a very special find! I had to be dragged here because I'd found a perfectly nice bar around the corner from where I was working and I'm a lazy so-and-so, I didn't really want to walk 5 blocks but I am so glad I did! This is an absolutely super little bar. Red checked tablecloths, charming booths, gorgeous... More

We arrived late due to unbelievable traffic in Times Square. The kitchen had closed, however the staff was polite to seat us and bring us the bar menu which was more than sufficient. We ordered the sliders and fries which were delicious! The drinks outstanding. The best Moscow mule I 've ever had! The ambiance with the murals and the... More

We had dinner here one night since we were staying at the Elysee. After being spoiled by the staff at Elysee, the service was average. It has a very cool feel and good ambience. Our waiter didn't get the order right, which he corrected but it was obvious he was just doing his "job". He was not very engaging. The... More

Traditional bar with good drinks and great burgers. Service was great and the wine selection was great. Great atmosphere to meet up with someone after work.

My brother told me about this little gem of a place. Didn't have any trouble getting a reservation for the 5 of us. Food was very good. Pastas are all home made and really yummy. Moscow Mules were sooooo good!!! They had a piece of candied ginger as a garnish! The decor is what really makes this place. Ask to... More

Great selection of cocktails and amazing food. Small, intimate restaurant with an old world feel. Try the smoked spaghetti and the beignets were incredible!

Description
Established in 1936, Monkey Bar was returned to its former glory in 2009 by Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter.

The dining room's lush red leather banquettes and dim, attractive lighting have restored the fizzy thrill of dining in a restaurant - both attractive and cozy - and harken back to a bygone era when a gentleman never left the house without a tie and a lady always had a pair of white gloves in her purse.

Monkey Bar's menu boasts American classics alongside seasonal dishes using sustainable and organic products whenever possible.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
