After a truly horrible experience at Milos i was a little nervous about trying another high end Greek Seafood restaurant. Good news is that Avra did not disappoint. Though a little pricey the seafood and fish were outstanding. I have never seen shrimp the size they offer here. Everything was delicious. Great dips; salads and sides. Service was very friendly... I was walking through midtown Manhattan and noticed this Greek restaurant. We checked out the menu and made a reservation for the next evening. It is a popular place, and a reservation is recommended. In addition to a Greek menu that one would expect, they have an exceptional choice of fresh fish. My wife had Sea Bass and I had... More

This restaurant is attractive and filled with tables. Staff hustles with service that waxes and wanes. This is a fish restaurant. When ordering fish one pays by the pound and negotiating dinner is a learning curve. It is not intimate. It is pricey. Fish is cooked well - but there is no real art in its presentation nor gustatory pleasure.... More

We went to this restaurant because I received very good comments from a friend of mine so we made a reservation a few days in advance (otherwise you won't get a table, specially on the one at Madison). The place was crowded and service from everyone was very good from hostess to our waitress. We order a nice Mediterranean salad... More

Having visited the islands and indulged in the seafood extraordinaire, I was beyond delighted to experience the same high quality, fresh, and fantastically prepared seafood dishes, combined with the greek "staples" just right around the corner of my hotel in NYC. The atmosphere and wine only complement the delicious dining experience. I have become a "regular" during my visits to... More

We had dinner and drinks 🍹 at the bar. This place was packed with a good vibe. My martini was perfect. For dinner we shared the octopus, tuna entree and grilled shrimp. All were cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. This place is on par with Milos as a matter of fact I prefer the atmosphere here a little more. Service... More

We arrived at the Avra Estiatorio And were promptly seated in an attractive restaurant that was vibrant and alive. What brings you here is the food especially the fresh food which is on display. We started with some appetizers and then shared a large Mediterranean Snapper that tasted as good as if not better than Branzini. Miracle - no bones.... More

Avra is a go-to for me on the east side. Fresh seafood, greek sides and good wine. Never disappoints.

Start with the fresh, grilled sardines. They are better here than any other restaurant in New York. Everything else is great too, so it's difficult to make recommendations. The swordfish brochette was delicious, perfectly cooked and not too heavy. Tuna Nicoise looked great. Chicken paillard is another excellent choice if you want something other than fish. It's a little pricy... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
