College drunks and medium equals bloody rare? Oh and by the way we're out of prime rib 30 minutes after the order.

Hey, folks, the place has been in business since the 1800s so they must be doing something right. First time visitors might consider visiting for lunch as the atmosphere is less rushed. You might believe that steak, steak and steak is the main attraction here but you would be mistaken as seafood (oysters, etc.) and their world famous mutton chop... More

Close to the empire building. Had lunch in this restaurant, not too busy at the lunch time. A lot of pipes in the roof. Traditional style inside. Meat is good. Has 2nd floor.

Lamp Chops were cooked perfectly. Double cut large enough for 2. Wine selection good. Only negative was the cost of a desert = an entree

We got in early before reservations started, but hard to get out in and hour, Great food and excellent service with a history of clay smoke pipes dangling from the walls and ceiling. Very Famous people smoked here. Prime and Mutton are the tops!. Bring your business AMEX cuz its expensive. but worth it

Fantastic steak, excellent cheesecake, love the historic decor. This is either the best steak or one of the top 5 steaks I have eaten. I had the privilege to have eaten at Ruth's Chris, Bern's, Morton's, Del Frisco's, Peter Luger, etc. We ordered the Prime Porterhouse for Three. They serve Eileen's cheesecake which is also wonderful. This is a special... More

Part of the charm of Keens Steakhouse is its history, and the hundreds (thousands?) of clay pipes lining the ceiling, but the good news is the steaks are worthy of a visit without the old-world charm and the service is excellent. My daughter and I shared a chateaubriand for two, which was excellent, and the porterhouse that the couple at... More

To eat at Keens was a suggestion from a local and we were initially worried about the damage to already pounded Aussie dollar. We booked for an 8:30pm table on a Sunday night and the place (which is vast and spread over several rooms) was packed but our table was private and the service was attentive without being pushy. It... More

My partner and I visited to celebrate our engagement earlier in the day on top of Rockefeller and Keens really is one of the best steakhouses we've been to. The restaurant itself has a lot of character which really adds to the experience and the second we walked into the dining room we knew we were going to have a... More

So the food was really, really good. These were the biggest sirloin steaks we'd ever seen, but that could just be to our little UK eyes. And the venue itself was really cool with over 40,000 pipes attached to the ceiling from the building's origins as a gentleman's club from the 1890s. It's not a cheap restaurant though and so,... Description
Keens Steakhouse, a classic New York chophouse, was already famous for its steaks and chops at the turn of the century. Founded in 1885, Keens has 90,000 clay pipes that line the ceilings – pipes once smoked by customers after dinner. Today Keens legendary mutton chops and dry aged prime steaks are still without equal in the city.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
