I have eaten here for many years The inside room is beautiful. But sadly in need of refurbishment The garden is wonderful but often not open The food is interesting and remains very good The service is absolutely abysmal The previous pleasant staff seems to be gone The present staff is careless disinterested unprofessional dismissive rude and unpleasant Much is... We had a 10 pm post theatre reservation and the place was mostly emptied at that time, so the service was speedy. The bread, pasta and salads we dined on were all delicious. The staff was prompt and very nice even late at night they were friendly. We sat in the garden on a warm July night on the 14th,... More

Tucked away across the street from the more widely known Orso, Barbetta was a terrific recent find. Although hard to believe I never ate here or even knew about it, this is a super sleeper. Not your NYC cutting edge, trendy hot spot, it is the perfect place to wind it down when your office is making you nuts! While... More

A wonderfully old fashioned experience in the heart of midtown. In the same family ownership for decades and with hugely accomplished service and delicious Italian food this really is a one off experience. It was hot the night we went so we decided to eat inside but the courtyard would have been wonderful on a cooler evening. Like nothing over... More

We had a large business group dinner in June 2016 at the outdoor garden at Barbetta. The service was terrific; the food was traditional Italian, well presented and well flavoured. It is an expensive restaurant but worth the cost. The outdoor garden is charming and quiet; an oasis in the middle of Manhattan's frenzy.

As the oldest restaurant in the city still owned by the same family, there is lots of history here. The service was incredible and the food outstanding. We sat outside in the garden area, which was really nice. Although we made reservations, there were plenty of tables to be had the night we went. It ain't cheap, but the experience... More

I was delighted to find Barbetta as a highly-recommended spot for pre-theater dining. Located along a quiet stretch of the iconic Theater Restaurant Row, across the street from the venerable Joe Allen's, Barbetta was perfect for an elegant, old-world dinner before a Broadway show. The prix-fixe offerings were varied and excellent. My daughter and I elected to chose one four-course... More

Wonderful experience at Barbettas restaurant! This was a special dinner for my mother and her first visit to New York City. Unfortunately we were a little late due to New York traffic, however we were promptly escorted to a table inside (originally requested outdoor dining, but since we were late I can understand) and began our pre-theatre dining selections. We... More

We recently visited Barbetta for a wonderful birthday dinner. We visited the restaurant on a Tuesday so we had the place practically to ourselves. The food was excellent and the service was impeccable. I don't understand the reviews of some of the others listed here. Marco was our waiter and his attentiveness was unmatched. Granted, we visited the restaurant on... More

We went to dinner before our show. The service was outstanding...the food was average. I was disappointed that there wasn't a single pasta entree available on the theater menu. I ordered the steak, which was tasty. The mashed potatoes were incredible. My husband had the pork chop. It was over-cooked sadly and the sides with his meal were meager. We... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
