The service was excellent, but the food was one dimensional and lack flavor. It either was too salty, too oily or too much tomato flavor. The wine list was extensive, but overpriced with few wines under $100.. I would not recommend it.

Yesterday, a group of 5 women had lunch at Esca. We told our waiter we were interested in a light lunch and in sharing. He brought us menus and we decided on 2 salads and one main course. The waiter returned saying that there was a required minimum, and we needed to order 2 more main course or 1 more... More

We stopped by for dinner before a 700pm show. We arrived about 530. The waiter made it his business to ensure we got ordered and able to enjoy our meal and make the show on time. The food was excellent. We had Salmon, Longfin, Fiore Di Zuca, Pomodoro and Verdura Mista. Everything was excellent. I would like to return when... More

The atmosphere and premises of the restaurant and nice and cozy. We started our dinner in the small outdoor garden terrace which is very nice if it wasnt for some of the mice running around. But I understand this is normal for NYC and nothing to blame the restaurant for. Outside we enjoyed great oysters but that is nothing the... More

I guess when you go to Esca and pay those prices you have very high expectations. I've been there several times and I love the food but this trip was a bit disappointing. Also, the staff was somewhat disorganized and they missed a step on service. Still delicious.

From the moment we were greeted gruffly and throughout the meal I could not remember the last time I was so ticked off in a restaurant! Being with dear friends is what saved the evening. I felt that some of the staff were not friendly at all. The "sommelier" could not be bothered to answer questions. I even found him... More

Esca is not only one of the best restaurants in New York's Theater District. It's one of New York City's best restaurants. Everything is top notch at this seafood lover's paradise. Like all of Mario Batali's restaurants, all bases are covered. The atmosphere, food, wine and service are exquisite. Esca's dinner prices are one quarter the price of an evening... More

Not a traditional Italian and if you don't want exotic fish you are out of luck. I had gnocchi and it was way too salty. Salad nice but not special. So I found restaurant pretentious and very overpriced.

This place is classy and elegant. Service is superb and the dining experience was wonderful. White bean crostini for starters was delicious. Stuffed zucchini blossoms with goat cheese was a favorite as was the spaghetti with lobster in a mint sauce. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Our server Patricia was top notch. Can't wait to go back. Thank you... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
