THis restaurant is tucked at the bottom of an apartment house near the theater district, in a very busy area. WHen you walk in though, it is quiet, tranquil and you fell like you are in Italy. Service is excellent, food is fresh and perfect, and the sine list is mostly Italian and extensive. I highly recomment this restaurant. Reservations... More

The food and the service are wonderful, however it has never been on of my favorite restaurants. My problem with Esca has always been how tight together the tables are and the noise level. There are times that it's very hard to hear the people seated next to you. It draws a crowd that seems to be screaming to be... More

We had a lovely Friday night dinner at Esca during a recent trip to Manhattan. Remember to reserve at least two weeks in advance to get your table on a weekend. Service was welcoming and very competent but a tad aloof compared to the warm, genuinely friendly, and exceptional service we experienced a few days before at our dinner at... More

This new Mario Batali restaurant was recommended to us by the queenbeeofnyc. There was a mix up in our reservation but the maitre d fixed the problem easily and sat our party of 4 quickly. He also served our wine and was very available to us as we dined. Most of us had the spaghetti with 1 lb of lobster... More

Lovely place with friends. The crudo sampler was fabulous. Everything at the table was excellent. Very extensive wine list.

I can't even begin to explain how AMAZING this meal was. I started off with an anchovy appetizer. Little anchovies drizzled with olive oil. Then I moved on to a spaghetti with scallops, garlic & shrimp that my friend and I split. Their second courses are pretty big so it's perfect to split with someone. The waiter actually offered up... I am a New Yorker and never venture to the Time Square area but this restaurant makes it worth it. The second you walk in the door, you're greeted by a sincerely attentive hostess. I cannot say enough good things about the waitstaff ranging from the waiter, the gentleman who brings the bread, the person who refills the water, and... More

My wife and I have eaten at some really great restaurants. We enjoy good food. We expected master chef level service from esca. Jb is one of the owners, after all. What I didn't expect was to pay $40 for a plate with a piece of fried skate fish on it and a side of mushrooms. It looked like some... More

Staff were too attentive and not all that great. Very high prices for food -$35 for a burrata! Food pleasant but not worth the money. If you like seafood and are looking for a nice Italian in mid town, a good choice, otherwise, I wouldn't be back. Mixed staff, some pleasant, some suffocating.

Loved the small cozy yet trendy atmosphere of this spot. Food was on point and the crudo was amazing! A must try for seafood in NYC.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
