World class sushi in a quiet and private setting

The restaurant is quiet and offers a very private experience. The sushi is definitely high end; not as good as Gari but cheaper than Gari. I prefer going with friends or my spouse because the service may be slow at times, so business meals may be painful (when service is slow). It is still quite... read more

We made a reservation an hour before going to the restaurant and they were very accommodating. The fish was fresh and the dining room was quaint, but very romantic. My boyfriend had just proposed to me on the Brooklyn Bridge and it was the perfect place to celebrate as we were staying only a block away and could walk to... More

We had a 6:30 reservation at this place on a Saturday night. The place was packed, as were all of the neighborhood restaurants, but the service was quick and the food was great, We had a seaweed salad, one of the best ever, and a regular salad, which was fine, and an order of tempura that my wife said surpassed... Looking for a place to grab lunch on a rainy day we grabbed two seats at the bar. We had the most unusual but good food. The sushi chefs were so busy with orders both for in restaurant ad for take out. The dishes are a work of art.

My wife and I stepped into Sushi Zen at short notice as after we landed we wanted to eat some sushi and the concierge recommended this restaurant. We are glad he did. We ordered the "Sashimi omakase" sitting at the bar. This is where the chef apparently chooses the 14 best cuts of fish for you. I say apparently because... More

Sushi Zen is a nice, moderately priced Japanese restaurant on West 44th street close to where I typically stay when traveling on business to NYC. There is rarely a wait, the service is wonderful and food delicious. A safe bet if you are staying in midtown.

We got there without planning it, after a Broadway play. We got a place at the bar, that is the best spot. It closes at 10:00 p.m. A quality hidden jewel in the crazy Times Square area. Chef Suzuki rocks, he was very entertaining. The quality of the omakase very good.

I have been going to Sushi Zen for a very long time and the sushi has always been excellent. It was the first time I ever tasted fresh uni out of the shell! Crazy stuff! Everything is always very fresh. I highly recommend satisfying your sushi cravings here.

We had a wonderful dinner at Sushi Zen. I've only had sushi there before which is typically excellent. This time we decided to try the introduction to Kaiseki. It was beautifully presented and was delicious. The introduction is very well priced at $65 per person. They have great sakes as well.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
