I'm local. Born and raised in Manhattan. Work in Midtown. Never been to La Grenouille. First time last week, for my 35th wedding anniversary. The decor was stunningly beautiful. The service was, in a word, superb. Everything was ultra elegant and impressive, and I'm not easily impressed. Up to this point, I give La Genouille 6 stars. The food was... More

I have been going to la Grenouille for decades. The other night we stopped in late and were lucky to find a small table. The news is that this justly famed and august place now has a smaller, after theatre or bar menu. I was stunned to be able to order mac and cheese. My friend had a small fish... More

I was looking forward to going here. It's a beautiful space and I love sophisticated French food. The good news is that the food was good. My gripe was with our treatment. The restaurant was not full but we were taken past all the lovely ground floor tables to a 2nd or maybe 3rd floor. 🙁 There was no one... More

Travel to NYC quite a bit but never fell upon this French gem! Kudos to my husband for arranging. As soon as you step into the restaurant you are transported to Paris. The decor is charming, the staff professional and attentive and the food...tres bien! The maitre d' on the second floor made everyone feel special with his humor and... More

Absolutely the best French restaurant in New York. The food is out of this world. Well prepared and delicious. The service is great and the venue quite lovely. The flowers are breathtaking I cannot recommend this restaurant more. If you are on the Upper East, make reservations. You will be in for a fabulous meal

The perfect atmosphere for a romantic dinner date. The bartender made the best drinks, our table was in the third floor nook that we were able to have to ourselves. The food was unbelievable and brought out in a perfect pace. We couldn't have been happier to spend our Saturday night here over a 3 hour meal. The food was... More

Bartender Tony was very enjoyable to talk with. Had a traditional gin martini that only Tony can make. Owner came over and said "hello". My wife really enjoyed it, which is all that matters. We'll have dinner there next time in NY.

Wow, table ready on time, impeccable service... Incredible gastonomy, what can I say... Restaurant is visually appetizing, the flowers are legendary and for good reason, wow. If you want an old world french restaurant with the best of everything where standards have not been "modernized" then this is your best choice...

We hosted a dinner here for friends. No cocktails, but excellent wine list. My husband has celiac disease and two of our party are vegetarian and nothing was a problem. Service was formal but friendly and helpful, a nice trick to pull off. Lovely amuse bouches and little sweets to go with our coffee at the end of the meal.... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
