We planned to taste some Brazilian food and Ipanema was worth a try. Very nice restaurant close to Times Square. It looks small from outside but once you step in, its big and also has a very nice warm vibe. The decor was cozy. Staff were friendly. We ordered their national dish, Feijoada Completa and Picanha. The portions were really large.... More

Ipanema has great location, updated decor and good food. I'd they made some adjusted this could be an excellent choice for Brazilian cuisine. The Mariacada--basically an assorted shellfish soup is a huge granite bowl. The fish is properly cooked and not over done. But the soup lacked amazing flavor and was somewhat average in flavor though it had plenty of... More

This is across the road from Cambria Hotel and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and excellent service. All the meals were good. I had a shrimp stew served in a coconut, Very flavorful and a large portion. Everyone (there were 5 of us) enjoyed the food. The sangria was excellent too. We had a great... More

We ordered the dishes recommended by our waiter and enjoyed them. We also asked for yucca which was not on the menu and they prepared this for us. The wine and service were good.

We stayed across the street at the Cambria Hotel and had no intention of eating Brazilian, but we were exhausted after a long day and the desk clerk recommended Ipanema. What a delight. They got my bride and I a table as walk-ins and we ordered Caipirinhas, sort of a Brazilian take on a margarita, and oh they were divine.... More

Neither of us was starved so we only had main courses and a drink. Both were very good. I had paella, which is rarely available in a 'single serving.' My dinner partner had a seafood specialty dish, which he enjoyed. Service was attentive. The restaurant was only about half filled so we could easily carry on our business conversation. They... In preparing for our short visit to NYC, my daughter did the research on Brazilian restaurants and this was one of the best for a reason. We had a reservation and the table was ready when we arrived. The wait staff was helpful and friendly throughout our dinner. The appetizers and entrees were excellent. Every meal was full of interesting... More

Their food is just OKAY. But nothing special, also their tap water is not free ( $2-5). I am not sure about the price of that tap water in a used bottle. Its over-priced too. Like the other restaurants in Midtown. Huge part of their earnings goes to their over-priced rent, thats why they have to make their prices higher.

Description
In the heart of Little Brazil street is the famous Ipanema Restaurant, considered to be the best Brazilian restaurant in all of New York City. Ipanema offers a relaxed and contemporary atmosphere complemented by the authentic cuisine our chef has perfected over the past 30 years. While the name Ipanema refers to the famous beach in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil our menu is firmly rooted in the culinary crossover between both Brazil and Portugal. Ipanema's menu combines the timeless history of Portuguese recipes with the zest and vibrancy of Brazilian cuisine, resulting in a one-of-a-kind dining experience. At Ipanema you can immerse yourself in a true Brazilian-Portuguese experience with famous dishes including: Feijoada, Vatapá, Pão de Queijo, Bacalhau Assado, Bitoque Mariscada, and more.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
