I really enjoy this place. The food is consistent and a large menu to enjoy. The place is very lively, lots of conversation and a secret little bar next door. Thumbs up!

We stopped here for dinner after a long day walking around the city and were not disappointed. It's on the second floor and had a really nice atmosphere with paper lanterns and cozy tables. We went at 5 (when they open) and were seated immediately. The waiter was very attentive and took good care of us. We started with a... More

I went here with a group of about 10 friends. The food was pretty good but rather standard Japanese fare with a few neat surprises. The warm house Saki was the highlight. We shared at least 7 or 8 bottles of it and it went down smoothly, tasted great (I am not usually a Saki fan) and at the end... More

I CRAVE this place and every friend I bring here ends up craving this place too... they end up texting me, asking when we are going back... Favorites: - grilled smelts (SOOOOOO DELICIOUS!) - fried squid legs - chicken skins - kimchi fried rice- yum, yum, yum and even better the next day with a runny egg - grilled rice... More

We got lost around the area and found this little gem by chance. A very authentic Japanese restaurant. It was prob a bit too noisy for us but that would have been great place to hang out with friends for a few drinks and a good meal. Highlights for me were the yakisoba and the taco yaki... probably the best... More

Was taken here by a local friend and wasn't expecting much coming off the street and going up the stairs. You come in to a bustling room full of customers and staff and a buzzing atmosphere (we went at 3am) I eat here every time I go back to New York. Please go!

This place is so unique to everything else you find in NYC. Every time I go I try something new because I know it will taste good! The staff is always friendly and willing to answer any questions I may have regarding the menu. I would definitely recommend. Its a nice experience and not just any other Japanese restaurant. This... The restaurant is a simple, casual place but the food is very good. After dinner you can go through a door and there's a cool bar. Fun !

one of the last few standing izakaya in the St Marks area where it was once full of Japanese shops of all sorts. The area is now totally gentrified with commercial garbage. I don't see how any of these guys are going to survive through this. This spot is your good ol' izakaya with everything you can expect. They make... More

Weve been here numerous times because the food & ambiance is great, but every time we go the service is always lacking! This visit our waitress seemed to busy to pay ANY attention to us! Forgot one of our dishes an than disappeared on us. When i only gave a 10% tip she ran after us to give her more...... More

Staying in East Village

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
