My daughter and I enjoyed an early birthday celebration by savoring the vegetable tasting menu and the accompanying wine flight. We started with cocktails and the server allowed us to linger over them before starting the tasting menu. Once the tasting menu began we were treated to an amazing sampling of dishes and perfectly paired wines. Our favorites were the... More

Went on a Thursday night for appetizers and wine with no reservations. The hostess was friendly and explained that it would be a 90 minute wait and if we wanted she could text us when a table was ready. We were in no hurry and agreed, At almost exactly 90 minutes we received a text that our table was ready.... More

Friendly, casual enough that it feels like you can say hello to people near you. it's what i look for in a restaurant: great food and an atmosphere that isn't stuffy. We sat at the bar which I would recommend if you don't have a reservation. Go here if you like fine versions of dishes that are not too complicated.

Gramercy Tavern has been my favourite restaurant in NYC for a long time. Service is always competent and food is good although I must say because I dine out so much, I am getting tired of having to go for set menus of at least 4 courses. I would be happy if restaurants offered alacart too. Nevertheless, a beautiful place... More

We visit nyc about once a year and Gramercy Tavern is always a must. Their tasting menu is great. The food is always delicious and the service is friendly and attentive. This visit we started with the lobster salad which was tasty with sweet corn and parmesan chips and a kick of spice. Their rolls are warm and fluffy. I... More

We were here to celebrate a reunion and a birthday. A large group of friends. We ordered the six courses both sides of the menu and one person ordered the wine pairing. The experience did not meet our expectation...it exceeded it. From quality of food to the attentive, professional, warm and non intrusive but present service we were delighted and... More

Ate there for a late lunch/early dinner. Ate in the tavern section which had a nice comfortable atmosphere, there is a more formal diner section as well. Food was terrific. Had grilled Arctic Char and was very pleased. Also had a Manhattan. They used a type of Vermouth that I had never tried before - also very good. It's a... More

One of America’s most beloved restaurants, Gramercy Tavern has welcomed guests for close to two decades to enjoy seasonal American cuisine, warm hospitality and unparalleled service. The restaurant is perennially ranked at the top of Zagat Survey’s ‘Most Popular’ list, and has garnered eight James Beard Awards including ‘Outstanding Restaurant’ and ‘Best Chef: NYC’. Chef Michael Anthony’s highly seasonal menu consists of elegant dishes with a rustic influence that showcase the restaurant’s relationships with local farms and purveyors. The Main Dining Room serves prix-fixe menus starting at $92 for dinner and an a la carte menu for lunch, and accepts reservations 28 days in advance. The more casual Tavern serves an a la carte menu centered around the wood burning grill, and welcomes guests on a walk-in basis. The restaurant also features an acclaimed wine list, and thoughtfully selected beer and cocktail offerings.

Staying in Flatiron District

Neighborhood Profile
Flatiron District
Offering many of the city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets - much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighborhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being home to a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.
