The positives were plenty of attentive staff/ good server and unique and lovely decorating. We had not been in years so my expectations may have been too high. We started with plum and tomato salad - excellent and different. I had the duck meatloaf which...was unique, good not great and too salty for my taste. My partner had the hamburger which was so salty he ate 1/2. Duck fat chips quite good. White wine was too warm and wrong beer served to my partner. We are not good complainers, but felt compelled to write a review in the hopes of improvement.More

Gramercy Tavern (dining room) is every bit the New York classic that people tout it to be. The dining room is beautiful yet cozy, the service is warm, and the food is spot on. There is no pretentiousness or excess here, just solidly great food...that is perfectly executed and staff that seem delighted to work there. A definite must-try.More

We really enjoyed our experience eating dinner at Gramercy Tavern. The outdoor patio is so pleasant, the garden designer created a beautiful space with magnolia trees. It is well worth a visit to have some tasty food with unique ingredients. Excellent service as well

GRAMERCY TAVERN was adorned with lots of flowers indoors. We consumed the mushroom pot pie, grilled Arctic char, flatbread and golden beet salad. It was so delicious and filling, we didn’t have room for dessert! It was a perfect lunch after a long walk. It...would be a perfect meal anytime…😊More

This restaurant, especially the tasting menu, is definitely for special occasions. I was fortunate enough to be treated to their five course set meal. (They are very flexible and will adjust for specific diets.) Simply put this was the best meal I've ever had in...New York by a large margin. Just the bread alone (the angel biscuits) was worth my time. The tasting menu is ultra expensive but the Tavern menu is more achievable though still pricey. However, if you want to treat yourself, this is definitely the place to go.More

Having a very high expectation and having heard amazing feedback, we were thoroughly disappointed. There was a five course set 'tasting menu' that only had one extra course as a 'surprise' The main focus of the team seemed to be to get you in and...out as soon as possible. We had completed 3 courses within 45mins of arriving. we tried slowing down by eating slowly and pausing but this just made the staff try and clear our semi-finished plates, we had to keep telling them we weren't finished. Considering the eye-watering prices, this is unacceptable. I cant recommend this venue for fine dining, maybe the 'Pub' experience is better and maybe they should concentrate on that and forget fine dining.More

We celebrated our 49th anniversary there with the tasting menu. Each course was different and delicious. Our favorite was the asparagus risotto. The chef used asparagus raw, grilled, puréed, and steamed. The scallop starter was great. Dessert was a treat. We had a cream cheese...mousse with strawberries-which tasted like the local ones at home and toasted pieces of angel food cake. Plus a coconut cake. The bread was very good and the butter was outstanding. Caroline, our server was welcoming. All the staff was efficient and pleasant. FYI there are two wine lists. A large book which is very well organized and has many very high end suggestions. And a smaller book which has wine by the glass which can also be had by the bottle. This was a little less pricey.More

The food is excellent as is the service and atmosphere. The tasting menu allows you to try several delicious dishes including great steak, creative courses and dessert. We liked the drinks enough to order more than we usually do. You will not leave hungry.

Went here years ago for lunch and it was a wonderful New York experience. This time it was the worst of the half dozen restaurants we visited on this trip and on my birthday no less. The good: the host staff, the ambiance. That’s it....Our server was terrible. He didn’t show up to the table for 15 minutes and then creepily popped up behind me, no hello, no introduction and said… are you ready to order. Mind you we already had drinks the sweet hostess ordered for us and another nice gentleman brought us but it’s super weird to not great your table. From there we were rushed. The liver moose was good. Salad was ridiculously over- priced. My husbands burger was dry and tasteless and my stew tasted like an old Irish granny made it with the butchers leftover meat. It was my birthday and they still let me order dessert and then brought another one on top of that. I wish they would have just brought the birthday dessert or comped the one I ordered as I didn’t want two desserts. Service in New York is not great in general but this was bad even by New York standards (Balthazar is bad too but at least their food is good). Food so disappointing. It was like diner food. Another institution riding on it’s laurels rather than striving to provide quality food.More

I dined in the tavern on St Patricks day on our visit from England and was really looking forward to NY fine dining. Drinks at the bar and the ambience of the restaurant were delightful. Seated at a table near the entrance with quite a...draught which was a problem for the ladies in our group. Wine list was extensive with wines from around the world, but most were 100-300 dollar bracket and an extremely limited number (count on one hand) were reasonably priced wines under 80 dollars. Summary not a balanced wine list in terms of cost. I had Steak Tartare which only way too describe was bland. The sauce on the side was like a mayonnaise with no bite to the taste so you ended up with creamy raw mince which meant i could not finish it. Different chefs may have their own interpretation of the classic menu but no capers, Worcestershire sauce etc and you can’t call it Tartare. Their signature dish was mushroom pot pie which was delicious but served on its own dish with no accompaniments , it gave the experience of eating a microwave TV dinner, albeit a great one. The staff were attentive and friendly but overall a disappointing evening and we had much better meals on our NY trip.More

The best meal we had on the trip. We did the 5 course meal. Every dish was perfection and the whole table loved everything. Which never happens. It’s not cheap but if you are going to splurge come here and you will not be disappointed.

The Tavern has always been a favourite on our dining list, but we didi not go there for years ( 8) until our dinner last week. the staff is as always super friendly and helpful. we loved the plates, which were taken at the front...room not the main dining room , so the less formal place. despite it being the 14 February, we were served swiftly and there was no hint of a St Valentin special menu in sight, a blessing in my eye. more impressive, since the departure of their pastry chef Nancy Olson in 2013, we were hoping the new pastry chef would leave us as good memories as Nancy's desserts did. and it has been the case! the desserts are exceptional, and conclude with a Wow the dinner.More
