Wonderful pre-theater dinner. Arrived just before 6pm and took two available seats at the bar, avoiding a 20-30 minute wait for a table in the bar area. Great service at the bar, and of course very entertaining to watch the very professional bartenders. Shared several appetizers and left well-satisfied. Best was the artic char; cavatelli with eggplant was delicious but... More

We were confused about our reserve and we were educatedly accommodated in a good table in the tavern room. The best dinner we had in NYC. Great roasted oysters, good meat dishes and a marvellous service with flower decorations in the room. We felt like at home there.

We go there once in a while for a splurge meal. This was for my husband's birthday (which they knew). Food was lovely, as usual, and the place is beautiful. But we weren't treated as special this time, and it made a difference. Table was off to the side. Well, okay. Server (the main one) very nice at first, but... More

Though locals go here (which is always a good sign), visitors are welcome here. I was visiting my "local" friends who consider this their home-turf watering hole and visited again solo and received the same consistently high-level service. The cocktails here are balanced and tasty. This and they are not stingy with the liquor, something that can be missing at... More

Made the Reservation through Open Table and provided the e-mail and the US phone contact number. When we appeared to the door of the restaurant at the reserved time, we were told the restaurant has problem with plumbing and the restaurant will be closed until it is fixed. It was a hot Summer day. I would have hoped the restaurant... More

Do not be put off by the "Tavern" name. In the front there is sort of a Tavern setting, albeit a very classy one, but behind that there is an excellent restaurant. Great service with very good timing and excellent food. Ideal for a special meal out. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for. I highly recommend Gramercy... More

I love this restaurant! There is the less formal Tavern and in the back the more formal restaurant serving the "Prix Fixe" tasting menu. The menu changes seasonally. The Tavern's menu is "a la carte" offering many appetizers, entrees, desserts and selection of farmstead cheese. It seems every-time I opt for the beautifully appointed dinning room with the set menu.... More

We visited on a Wednesday evening at 5:30, asked to eat in the tavern side of the establishment, we were seated right away and we were very pleased with our meals. The service was impeccable with Carolyn seeing to our every need. We had a dozen delicious Iced Oysters and our mains were Lamb, Calamari, and Shrimp Dumplings. Every dish... More

One of America’s most beloved restaurants, Gramercy Tavern has welcomed guests for close to two decades to enjoy seasonal American cuisine, warm hospitality and unparalleled service. The restaurant is perennially ranked at the top of Zagat Survey’s ‘Most Popular’ list, and has garnered eight James Beard Awards including ‘Outstanding Restaurant’ and ‘Best Chef: NYC’. Chef Michael Anthony’s highly seasonal menu consists of elegant dishes with a rustic influence that showcase the restaurant’s relationships with local farms and purveyors. The Main Dining Room serves prix-fixe menus starting at $92 for dinner and an a la carte menu for lunch, and accepts reservations 28 days in advance. The more casual Tavern serves an a la carte menu centered around the wood burning grill, and welcomes guests on a walk-in basis. The restaurant also features an acclaimed wine list, and thoughtfully selected beer and cocktail offerings.

Staying in Flatiron District

Neighborhood Profile
Flatiron District
Offering many of the city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets - much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighborhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being home to a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.
