What makes Indian food for me is the use of its blend of spices. Not just heat, which Indian food need not be, but the freshness and brightness of flavors that Indian spices impart to food. If you are familiar with good Indian food you may be as disappointed as I was. Starting with the somewhat stale papadum served when... More

I go here regularly. The staff is incredibly friendly, helpful and accommodating. We order the chicken curry and a fish dish. The curry was too plain for my taste but the waiter took it back and added a chili to it. I think I'll stick to the chicken korma which I usually order. Poori bread was delicious.

Tandoor Oven is a whole in the wall that serves up delicious food. It doesn't look like much from the outside but don't pass it by. Located on the upper east side it is conveniently located by many great local thrift stores.

What a great Indian restaurant in our neighborhood. The owner welcomed us graciously and we had a lovely table. The restaurant is authentic, warm and cozy. Our wine and food was perfect in every way! Service was excellent. A sweet ice cream dish was presented at the end of our dinner. I am so thrilled to discover this wonderful, impeccable,... More

The food was OK, nothing to write home about. Both appetizers and entrees seem to have the same kind of sauce base. Service was OK, ranging from morose to friendly depending on fluctuations of the waiter's mood. Wasn't my choice, my niece picked it using some other site, not TA - always use TA ))))

Although the decor was nothing to speak of, the food was excellent, and the service was prompt, efficient, and genuinely friendly, without being intrusive. There was a warm neighborhood feel to the place. I'd certainly return when in the city next.

I've eated in some of the best Indian restaurants around the world, and this was the best. We found it by chance after getting out late from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. We wandered around Lexington looking for a place that was open for dinner. We stumbled upon this gem on 83rd and 3rd. The staff was so friendly and... More

Some restaurants take simple things and provide a shabby chic feeling. This feels more economy chic. The lighting is the first give away. A realtor may describe it as intimate, most would just say dark. The menu implied options, but the soggy popadoms suggested otherwise. Settling on the lamb rogan josh with rice and a naan. The rice was very... More

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighborhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighborhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
