The interior of the restaurant is swathed floor to ceiling in Indian design, and the ambience is nice with a good amount of lighting. More importantly, the service was excellent at the time my party of two was having lunch. The owner/manager was so nice! The food more than met our expectations with a good blend of seasoning, spice, and... More

Having grown up in London I know a good curry house. This place had no recent reviews which worried me but we got a take away. Sorry I eat the food but I have never had a mild chicken jalfrezi before made with tandoori chicken. So to summarise and be fair if u know about indian food you will get... More

We loved it. Walked over from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. A Saturday afternoon in October. It was the first time my nieces tried Indian food, some visiting from out of town. We arrived early for dinner and they were super attentive, explained well the menu, asked about individual food interest (spice tolerance) before making dish recommendations. Everyone loved the... What makes Indian food for me is the use of its blend of spices. Not just heat, which Indian food need not be, but the freshness and brightness of flavors that Indian spices impart to food. If you are familiar with good Indian food you may be as disappointed as I was. Starting with the somewhat stale papadum served when... More

I go here regularly. The staff is incredibly friendly, helpful and accommodating. We order the chicken curry and a fish dish. The curry was too plain for my taste but the waiter took it back and added a chili to it. I think I'll stick to the chicken korma which I usually order. Poori bread was delicious.

Tandoor Oven is a whole in the wall that serves up delicious food. It doesn't look like much from the outside but don't pass it by. Located on the upper east side it is conveniently located by many great local thrift stores.

What a great Indian restaurant in our neighborhood. The owner welcomed us graciously and we had a lovely table. The restaurant is authentic, warm and cozy. Our wine and food was perfect in every way! Service was excellent. A sweet ice cream dish was presented at the end of our dinner. I am so thrilled to discover this wonderful, impeccable,... More

The food was OK, nothing to write home about. Both appetizers and entrees seem to have the same kind of sauce base. Service was OK, ranging from morose to friendly depending on fluctuations of the waiter's mood. Wasn't my choice, my niece picked it using some other site, not TA - always use TA ))))

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighborhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighborhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
