My 'beef' with this place is that it's nothing particularly special and annoyingly, it should be for the prices charged. The mezze platter just looked a bit messy looking. Some elements were fine, but others not so. My mushroom crepe would have been enhanced by being too cold. The crepe seemed pre-cooked, the filling was good, but overall, not great.... More

We loved this restaurant! Everything was fresh and delicious. Do not skip the sweets as they were worth it The atmosphere is quaint. The restaurant is small but very clean and tastefully decorated. The staff were fantastic - very attentive, well versed on their dishes and made us feel right at home. We will be back (can't wait to be... More

I had never been to a Vegan restaurant. I went with a friend who is a vegan and had been there several times. The presentation of the food was very appetizing and tasted good. I would definitely suggest to people and return when I was in town.

We had several recommendations to visit. I am the vegan and my wife will occasionally come with me to a vegan restaurant. I had the "eggs Benedict" it was creative and extremely tasty. The dark chocolate peanut butter cake was outstanding.

My wife and I had a fun and enjoyable evening. Our server was very knowledge about the menu and GF options, the food we orders was awesome (tomato soup, chickpea cake, mushroom crepes, corn)! The cocktails were great as well. Highly recommend!

Was extremely skeptical of going to a Vegan restaurant - was highly recommended. What a pleasant surprise, had the crepe, my friend the mushroom steak. Delightful presentation. We were seated upstairs by the window (highly recommend) - was the most charming restaurant we visited while in New York - also because rooms are divided into three sections,it was quiet and... The spaghetti and "wheat balls" were delicious. The cauliflower special should've been soaked with the flavors instead of sitting on top. The salad that came with was good with flavorful condiments. The drinks have very strong flavors. The cannoli was very good. The Mexican chocolate cake had veganized flavors so it was very different from any other that I've had... More

We were lucky to get in on a Tuesday without a reservation. The earlier try on Saturday did not work out. The food is excellent. I had the live zucchini blossom which was just wonderful: the presentation, the taste, the texture. Personnel is friendly and explains whatever it is you do not know, or may not know. I, for instance,... More

I had been wanting to try Candle 79 for years when traveling to NYC and was finally able to try it during a recent trip with one of my girlfriends who is also mostly vegan. We were running about 15-30 minutes late for our reservation and they were so accommodating to our tardiness. Between the 2 of us we ordered... More

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighborhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighborhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
