We visited here on our honeymoon and the food was absolutely delicious.. the cocktails weren't bad either! My partner is a meat eater and we loved it too and definitely didn't miss the meat aspect of his meal. Would love to revisit next time we are in New York

My second visit to Candle 79 and like the menu. We were seated immediately and server came quickly and offered the daily specials...I had to ask him to repeat..which he did immediately without getting irritated. Menu had daily specials which we ordered one of those. Excellent presntation and perfect taste. Server made sure that he check on us and if... More

Visited NY for Mothers Day weekend and my daughter and I wanted to try all the plant based restaurants. Candle 79 is amazing. I had the seitan piccata and loved the fact that many of the entrees are in the cookbook. The seitan was definitely the best I've ever had, never know it wasn't meat

Not a vegan at all but tried it and seriously it was very tasty and at the end I was full and enjoyed a great lunch. Service was nice, ambiance was good and location is great by Central Park!

Visited with my husband on a trip to NYC for my birthday and this was our 'special' meal. The food was delicious and the service great. I would definitely return. Funny that we travelled all the way from York, England to buy vegan lager which is made on our doorstep in Yorkshire! Thank you :-)

We're probably closer to a 3.5, but rounding up. Artichokes for starters and rich, savory entrees; desert - the chocolate mousse and ice cream was excellent, if the ice cream color was a little odd (they take green seriously!). Wait staff was knowledgeable and attentive. Great stop after a day at the Met or in Central Park, only a couple... More

My friend and I made reservations for 6:30pm on Saturday night and the restaurant was already busy with early diners. We were seated upstairs and had the most attentive server. We ordered the seasonal/special starter and I ordered the polenta fries and the piccata, my friend had the wild mushroom crepe. Both were vegan and delicious. We ordered the chocolate... More

Charming little spot. We went in because it looked busy and popular. This was a vegan restaurant so I had a few trepidations as I don't have good reactions to soy. Though vegan and vegetarian may seem straightforward, dodging soy in restaurant food is not always easy. Soon various dishes were off my list of possibilities. Then, with the ones... More

I was really looking forward to this supposedly terrific vegan restaurant. My polenta fries were so-so and the garbanzo bean fritter was a mess - crisp outside but a mushy purée on the inside. It was very expensive and compounding the problems was the lack of a bathroom on the second floor. The steps to the second floor are VERY... More

Great selection and service at this cozy upper east side place. It is a bit pricey, but worth it for the high quality of the food, the attentive service and an invitation atmosphere.

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighborhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighborhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
