A good spot if you're looking for a good meal--Italian or "continental"--in an upscale setting on a quiet block (E. 74th St. off Lex). Prices are reasonable, service was excellent, and tables are spaced apart nicely enough so you can hear yourself and your friends talk--not so common in many NY dining spots!

Had a cocktail at Bemelmans and then strolled over. Two couples. Welcoming upon arrival. Excellent service from our knowledgeable waiter, Juan Carlos. Lovely old-school ambiance. Outstanding food! Started with mussels & salads; then seafood capellini, sea bass, filet of sole, all perfectly prepared. Delicious dessert sampler & cappuccinos. Attentive service throughout. We will be back! Great experience, and I am... More

Wonderful small and intimate setting. Everyone makes you feel welcome - as if you are a highly valued regular patron. Very personal service and the food is excellent. Excellent drinks. Nice to visit on a regular basis.

Vivilo occupies a railroad car size ground floor space just off Lexington on the sw corner on 74th. Long bar on the right as you enter. Tables on the left, and in the back plus upstairs. Very much a neighborhood eatery. Great for intimate adult meals and /or small business meetings. Somewhat nosy, but the menu features appetizers, salads, pasta,... More

One of my favorite things to do in New York is to eat in a neighborhood Italian restaurant. I am looking for a place that is a bit small but has some charm, is not on any of the tourist's lists, would not be recommended by the hotel concierge but has great food served by waiters that may not be... we went with a group of 8, most of the group had been there before, we had not. The table was set for the wrong number of people with various elements missing including water glass for 1 person. We had a 7:15 reservation and were seated promptly. We were told that one of our waiters was on his first day.... More

We arrived at Vivolo for a week day lunch. We happened to arrive a bit early - before they officially opened. We were welcomed by a fantastic waiter who told us he had worked there for over 16 years. He seated us, brought us water, and gave us menus. He was very friendly and welcoming. The space is small and... More

Four of us had dinner here last week, before attending an opera at Hunter College. Nice place. Nothing much to look at outside (like many New York restaurants) but inside the place is warm and welcoming. Good Italian food, good Italian Wine and good Italian service (complete with obligatory New York Banter). I had some prawn-based antipasto, followed by a... More

We went with a group of seven. The atmosphere, food and serve staff was fabulous. The best Italian food I have ever eaten in my life!

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighborhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighborhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
