This place is wonderful for one fact and one fact only. It keeps jazz alive and gives singers and musicians the chance to perform. But at their expense. Twice a week is an open mic for singers. So people come in to hear. The singers don't get paid. The owner does. So he really uses talented musicians and singer and... More

We have got an answer for your review from the book that leaves not a small thing nor a great thing but hath counted it " The (faithful) slaves of the Beneficent are they who walk upon the earth modestly, and when the foolish ones address them answer: Peace " More

It is a good place on the Upper West Side for jazz, be it Open Mic or a regular set, quite relaxed atmosphere with decent (mostly) Mediterranean food and good service

Probably best to just go for a drink rather than a meal here. Had a nice starter of mixed mediterranean dishes followed by disappointing soup and vegetarian strudel. Service deteriorated during the evening and we gave up waiting for my Martini and just left. Australian Shiraz was terrible but their Italian cabernet was better. Great jazz but customers mostly ignored... More

Food was very good! Actually, my Shesh Kabobs were excellent! Nice ambiance, good service. If you like Mediterranean cuisine, should give it a try.

Neighborhood place to listen to jazz or open mic. Is comfortable. Bar could be configured better though- seats are uncomfortable. Decent happy hour prices -food on pricier side, but I have not tried.

You may think Woddy Allen would appear suddenly on the stage, as any neighbohr could do, the thing is that the atmosphere is absolutely charming and relaxed.. while you share a good mix of white wine and chesse cake one musician gets to the stage and starts to play, could it be a piano player.. or a guitar player... as... We have been dining at Cleopatra's Needle for around 4 years whilst visiting Manhattan, Whilst staying on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, we always enjoy Dinner at this Restaurant, they cater with a Middle Eastern Menu as well as people who have strict diets in our case, one who is a Vegetarian, there is good choice of Entrees for... This spot is like hanging out in your living room - cozy and warm with Christmas and other lights hanging about. I went on a Wednesday which seemed to be Open Mic night and everyone was great! Draft Beer was $9 and the Linguini with tom/basil was $13.95 with bread but no salad. Very basic menu.

Cleopatra's Needle is a singularly unique experience. Local talent performing in a warm & friendly environment. This is by no means amateur night. These are people who entertain / perform at the top of their game. Age is no barrier here with back up performers who while may be a bit long in the tooth prove there's no age barrier... More

Stopped at this place while in the UWS and found a cozy spot to enjoy an early dinner. Named after the obelisk in Central Park behind the Met I was drawn to it as I had recently visited Egypt. Food is in general Mediterranean (pure Egyptian food likely would be hard to survive in NY) and quite nice. Quiet and... More

Description
Cleopatra's Needle, named after the famed monument in New York's Central Park, is a world-renowned New York hot spot known for serving up food, drinks and hot live jazz to the New York jazz community. Our original cuisine has been featured on TV Food Network's "$40 a day", and we offer the best of New York's live jazz scene, with no cover charge. Our famed jazz jam sessions have attracted both the up-and-coming and the well-known stars of the jazz world. Weekly open mic for singers sessions and late night jam sessions provide a jazz feast for night owls, as well as a chance for young musicians and seasoned professionals to hone their skills, and trade hot licks. We also now have a top-of-the line grand piano. We have been featured in Downbeat magazine's international club guide, "100 Great Venues to Hear Jazz"
