I have been to this place the last two times I was in New York I love it!! The mussels and “frites” were better than what I had in Belgium! I just recommended it to someone for when they are next in NY!

Sure it needs a lick of paint and the awning has been broken more than two years, but the food is just good. Don't go for the shrimp cocktail, it's just not served as a Belgian restaurant would, but try the Carbonnade Flamande and the...More

Thanks for the nice review and the stars. Markt closed its doors permanently on April 15, 2018. We’re all very sad and your mention of the awning stabs me in the heart; We couldn’t bring ourselves to invest in the structural building repairs required to...More

We have gone here on last 2 visits to NY. It is a find. It has a delightful down to earth but elegant and authentic European feel. Great moules frites, lovely fish, vol at vent at lunch. Nice wine and beer service. Comfortable personal service....More

What a nice review! Thanks so much for taking the time to write it and for appreciating Markt. Sadly, after almost 20 years in business, Markt closed its doors forever on April 15, 2018. A sad day for all of us and, indeed, for New...More

It tries to be a traditional Belgian restaurant, with a wide range of beers, ambience, wines and a menu that mimics the cuisine. The mussels, my colleagues say, is highly recommended. My Nicoise was very elegantly presented and unusual but not up to par and...More

We’re not just trying to be Belgian, we are Belgian! The owner, chefs and a large percentage of our customer base is Belgian. Salade niçoise is not, of course, Belgian, it is from Nice, France. However, our version was conceived by a chef from Antwerp...More

From the vintage bar, the wood paneling, the welcoming staff, you know this is a place to relax and have a heck of a good time. The menu is definitely not your standard American fare. My poached oysters to start were just right, not mushy...More

My starter was really good - tuna with avocado and beautifully arranged. When my salad came I thought it was a mistake. I ordered the salad nicoise. It looked almost identical to my starter, and it was more like a potato salad with tuna, almost...More

I apologize. Our server should have advised against ordering two such similar dishes. Markt’s composed salade nicoise has been one of our most popular dishes for almost 20 years; I’m sorry it was not to your liking. As I recall distinctly, we did take the...More

A Belgian traditional. I've been here for both lunch and dinner. I had mussels, every time; this is, in my opinion, by far the best mussels restaurant in New York City. With NYC price, of course. But what you get is 2LB (or , as...More

Markt does a very good job of emulating a restaurant in Antwerp, Ghent, or Brussels. I had a salad and carbonades flamandes; my wife had oysters as an appetizer and mussels with frites for her main. We shared a dessert. All the dishes were very...More

This is the best place in NYC for mussels and steak frites. You literally get 60-plus delicious mussels in your choice of delicious, buttery or garlicky sauces—great for dipping the bread and fries into. You will think you’re in Bruges. It’s a wonderful value too....More
