Cold rainy day in January in NYC, this restaurant was recommended by Kleinfeld's. EXCELLENT recommendation!! Cozy, pleasant waitstaff, non-touristy, great food (mussels with wine) coffee served in a coffee press-really nice touches, and not 'break the bank'!

We been going to Markt since it was on 14th Street in the Meatpacking district, early 2000s? Lucky us when it moved closer to our neighborhood... Always, every time: great Belgian beer list, great mussels - one of the few places we will eat them - and also great skate, steak frites, meatballs, lobster bisque... Weekend brunch is very good... We went to Markt in June and had a great dinner and really enjoyed the evening. The place is super comfy and tastefully decorated. It wasn't touristy at all. We had a variety of starters that we shared including different croquettes that were delicious. I had the Poulet as main dish and it was impeccable, yummy! Unfortunately I can't remember... More

Good service, had lunch a couple of days after Christmas without reservations. The croquettes were amazing, and my husband and I really enjoyed our entrees (beef tartare for me, chicken with puff pastry for him). We would definitely go back.

Stopped in for brunch with friends. I was pleased that the restaurant was quaint feeling and that the staff was welcoming and kind. I ordered pancakes and was not impressed with them at all - they were good, but did not have anything special about them.

Stopped for a late dinner and a couple of beers. The restaurant has an extensive beer list from which to choose. Comfortable interior and we felt like we were in Europe. We shared pasta with pesto. It was served quickly. Service was attentive. The only negative was the 10.00 charge for sparkling vs tap water.

Thanks for the nice review! I'm sorry to hear that our charge of $8.00 for a liter of San Pellegrino took you by surprise. Your server should have informed you of the price ahead of time and for that we sincerely apologize. Anyway, hope you'll visit us again soon! More

Was in town for business and was walking the street looking for a spot to grab a quick dinner. I had the mussels and the frites, both were about average. This seemed like a locals bar and everyone was pretty friendly.

We were in town for the parade, and this place was open. Great service, easy location to get to. Food was prepared perfectly and healthy portions. We had the steak tartar appetizer that was delicious and huge, great to share! The grilled lobster was wonderful as well as the cilantro and cream mussels. Beef stew was also a big hit.... More

Stumbled by accident on this belgian brasserie while strolling in this neighborhood not exactly famous for great eateries. Fabulous surprise. Authentic belgian fare with genuine "croquettes aux crevettes" with real North Sea grey shrimp, excellent steak frites like in Brussels or Antwerp and a tasty fish soup ( waterzooey) . Amazing choice of beers and a knowledgeable super friendly waiter.... More

Staying in Flatiron District

Neighborhood Profile
Flatiron District
Offering many of the city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets - much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighborhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being home to a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.
