This was my second visit to this restaurant and it was just as good as the first. Both occasions I was with colleagues for dinner while on a business trip to NYC. Our hotel and office are both located in the Chelsea area, so this makes for a very convenient location. They have limited outside seating, which can be a... More

We had tickets to the recently renovated Irish Rep and wanted to eat close by. A friend who works in this area recommended Markt and my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The Belgian beer selection is excellent of course. My wife had Mussels which she loved and I had a Cod special which was superb. I couldn't resist the... More

The food was just ok. They have a good selection of beers, and the atmosphrre was nice. The staff was friendly. It is too bad the food isn't better, cause it could be very good in a flash.

Glories in being authentically Belgian, and certainly the range of Belgian beers is very large, served cold on demand, and quite good. We had time for only one serving of mussels -- pretty good but need to try more varieties. We were stopping by on the way to the Irish Rep nearby. A short history of Belgian beers shows how... More

Today it is all too easy to mask a restaurant by purchasing appropriate furniture for your concept. But here it feels authentic. If the weather is nice, sit outside for some fun people watching along 21st Street and 6th Avenue.Great expansive selection of Belgian beers..The Belgian kitchen is small forgotten next to its big neighbor.Beer and clams are never wrong.Service... Went with a group of seven, and several of us tried a few variations of the mussels, which they seem to regard as one of their specialties. Totally unimpressed, and overpriced. Moreover, the waiter was humorless, even surly, detracting further from the dinner.

If you are looking for a Belgian style lunch or dinner, this is the spot. Belgian mussel pot followed by Belgian waffles.. Both are quite as close to the ones you can get in France or Belgium. The envirinment is busy though. Loud and usually crowded. But still, strongly recommended for those who want change..

We met my cousin here for dinner. Looking at the menu he assured us Markt does not live up to all the Belgian authenticity of its former days. That said, my husband and he chose one of the remaining favorites on the menu, mussels in wine – the most traditional of the mussels choices; and on his recommendation I had... More

Staying in Flatiron District

Neighborhood Profile
Flatiron District
Offering many of the city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets - much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighborhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being home to a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.
