I grew up patronizing Spain as a young child with my parents. Since moving from NY, I had only been back to Spain a few times. This is a neighborhood gem. Food is great. Paella is affordable. Service is warm.

I love to find hole in the wall places that are off the beaten track. Spain has been around for some time and maybe the quality has gone down. I found this place dirty and in complete need of a renovation, the food was cold and overcooked. I will not be having a repeat visit to this establishment. Much better... More

The food was delicious and plentiful. The servers are grumpy but fun and service is quick. They do bring you little plates of meatballs and fried potatoes. It's kind of like a little piece of Spain.

Food was awful. Bland tasteless fare. Cheap cuts of chicken in paella. Needs a lick of paint. We left most of our food...

This local neighbors restaurant has a very homey family feel. Huge portions. One paella service to people! Lots of great appetizers are included. Don't forget cash only.

so as my friends and I walked into this restaurant again, 3/20/16, after having been there just last year, I noticed the older waiter having pink eye with pus oozing from his right eye, still serving food, touching it with his hands. Knowing how contagious pink eye is, my gf asked him what was wrong with his eye. He played... More

I came here in January 2016 for the first time since the late 1990's. My first visit was in 1978 and the Spain was my favorite restaurant throughout the 1980's and 1990's. The original owners still are actively running the place, Julio works the dining room with his son, both are incredibly friendly. The appetizers are tasty and the main... More

Had the chicken liver app and sangria. The chicken livers were tasty but a bit dry. Sangria was good and you get small pitcher for a decent price. I didn't get any of the "free" apps that everyone mentions, could be because i told the waiter that I was only getting an app...

The Spain is a throwback to another time in another Greenwich Village. It is an old school Spanish restaurant and old school NY. That's what I love about it. The fare is standard Iberian, generously served and reasonably priced. No soner had I sat down than the waiter laid on the table various small plates of appetizers: chorizo, mussels and... More

Staying in West Village

Neighborhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighborhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
