We were happy to find this restaurant and sorry to learn that it's closing in a few days due to a lease situation. They hope to reopen soon nearby. Staff was very friendly, explained everything well. Sharing worked best, with a number of appetizers and entrees for everybody to sample. All were interesting and tasty.

I had hoped that the food would live up to its reputation, but many of the dishes we ordered, like lobster rolls, green curry, broccoli and corn were just bland. The service was inattentive. You had to track the waitperson down for every request. We won't be returning.

I had been before with my partner a could Of years ago and enjoyed it however going a few years later with girlfriends (coming for a week from Australia) they wanted to go badly. I was pleasantly surprised the difference in atmosphere and with more people the food experience was more vast with dishes to share. It did not disappoint.

Wanted somewhere without too much hassle factor and this place is perfect for that. Nice table on ground floor - you get a nice atmosphere and the temperature is good for September whereas downstairs was a little more stuffy. Fun and eclectic crowd in meat packing so lively and busy. Food is ok without being spectacular but does the job.... More

Our last visit before the restaurant moves. Great ginger margaritas and cucumber martini to start the meal. Service pretty speedy to accommodate 3 sittings per evening which can be a bit annoying. Great range of tastes in both appetisers and mains. Chicken samosas were wonderful as was the duck curry and lobster. Desserts excellent - highly recommend the chocolate temptation... More

If you look at the other reviews I have posted on Trip Advisor, you will notice that they are all positive save one bad experience with the Meridien in Nice. I try to recommend the best of what I experience. Unfortunately, for this restaurant, I did not have the opportunity to taste what was inside due to their bouncer who... More

I wanted to try the Spice Market because a friend mentioned it was one of their favorite in the city and when I saw it would be closing at this location it was perfect opportunity! If this same flair and ambiance can be captured at the new venue, I will be back. The only thing that I didn't like and... More

A Monday evening but still we were lucky to get a table as it was packed. The three of us shared two tasting menus which was more than enough for us. There was one duff dish (the green vegetable curry) but everything else was fantastic. Such a shame that it's closing - NYC's restaurant scene will be poorer for it.

Description
Highlighted in the national and local press, Spice Market, on the corner of 9th Avenue, is inspired by the street food that Jean-Georges Vongerichten enjoyed while traveling in Asia. Authentically uplifted versions of flavourful street foods are served family-style, with dishes arriving continuously throughout the meal for all to share. Spice Market also offers corporate and social dining for large groups in the restaurant, lounge, and intimate, semi-private alcove rooms.

Staying in West Village

Neighborhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighborhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
