. The food was not very good quality and was overpriced. Don’t go this horrible cafe forever! We (2)went to eat dinner yesterday. We were told they switched the menu for dinner,( I used to have a lunch before, and saw the price is reasonable),...the waitress showed us the dinner’s menu is doubled price compared to the lunch price , we thought it would be okay then decided to eat dinner at the cafe.We ordered two courses : 1/ Black pepper beef lion $25 ; 2/ Xo shrimp $21 ; a bowl of rice $2 ;two cup of tea ( they charged us $3 each cup) . After 10 minutes, the waiter took the beef which was cut into 4 tiny bites to the table, we looked each other said the food was a small portion ; we felt disappointed, unacceptable and not satisfied with the tiny beef of course. The second course was Xo shrimp ( only 4 middle size shrimp in the plate ). No waiters come over to refill tea for us, they just standing at the counter and talking about something . As a consumer , the restaurant, managers and waiters should always treat guests with respect. Courtesy ,Keep it friendly to the customers. No matter how much overpriced the restaurant charged , but the food should be as much as the price , We complained about the food was not enough for the adults , small portions (4 tiny bites beef cube ; 4 middle size shrimp) are very overpriced,We were not satisfied with the waitress responding to us. The waitress said: “ Well, many people said our food was too much,so they couldn’t eat all the food throughly ! After hearing what she said , we got shocked, I said:" OMG , are you kidding me? You said your restaurant’s food is too much to eat? You knew the beef is a tiny cube, only for the baby not for the adults! How come your customers told you the food is too much to eat? Finally, she did not say apologize. We are not satisfied with the food, and your responding is unacceptable. That’s why only one table to eat dinner at your restaurant!" Bad, bad, bad, we won’t be back !!!!!! Don’t waste your money on this such horrible, not authentic, not courtesy, not friendly service’s cafe.More

This is a very disappointed visit. Initially thought we would be able to find a real style cafe in NYC. This one is on one of the recommended ones on Chinese websites. Found out the HK style cafe in Vancouver or Calgary are better than...it. Had the stir fried instant noodles with pork meat, HK style fake sharks fin, deep fried chicken wings, and iced ribena with lemon. Basically the food was over sodium, except the chicken wings. Customer service was minimal, no smile, no greetings. Cash only. Not recommend at all.More

Explore the uniquely varied menu; expect to devote some time simply to read the list and then to decide how to choose what you will eat. Example: 29 appetizers and 28 hot and cold drinks peer out awaiting your call. In contrast, enjoy the comfortable...sitting spaces, spacious though not especially distinctive or visually noticeable. After ordering your choices and while waiting for your selections explore the three different wall decorations: one abstract with limited color; the opposite wall fecund with bright, pungent colors; and a third next to the chefs’ kitchen a plethora of spirited photos depicting authentic Hong Kong people and places. ( Savor the delightful decor and the immense food choices having an unexpected distinctiveness from that in surrounding restaurants, tea cafes, and food vendors. Even those dishes with ordinary titles, for example, fried noodles with mushrooms and vegetables and fried bean curd with mushroom on rice give surprising taste satisfaction. To understand Cha Chan Tang (the literal translation is tea factory) expect to make many visits.More

For those from Hong Kong living or visiting New York and missing the real Hong Kong local food and drinks, this is probably as close to the authentic stuff that you can get. Their Hong Kong style milk tea is strong enough and their Borsch...soup is not bad either. They are quite busy though so if you don't have to, try not to compete with those grabbing breakfast before work, or the white collar lunch times as you will need to queue for a bit. I was seriously missing things like fish balls in curry sauce, instant noodles with satay beef, iced lemon tea, etc from living in Singapore, and since I arrived 5 days ago, I have gone 4 times. I think they are understaff though so the ordering bit can be a bit slow, but delivery of your already ordered items do come quickly enough.More

Cha Chan Tang in Flushing serves Hong Kong Style food. The menu was extensive, four pages in small font. The most expensive dish was the Crab Roes w/Salmon Friend Rice for $8.50. Most other dishes were under $7.50. I ordered my favorite, Shredded Pork with...Spicy veg. Noodle in soup. It was so yummy! I haven't had one as good for decades and it was only $5.25. The portion was just right for me. My daughter had Singapore Fried Vermicelli; it was very good also. The decor was contemporary. I would definitely go back again.More

Wanted to have a look around China town and got a bit peckish so decided to go somewhere that looked fairly hygienic. Ordered the chicken noodles which was decent for the couple of dollars we paid. Layout is authentic so definitely suggest stopping in if...in the area.More

I have been frequenting this restaurant for more than a year now whenever I go to Chinatown NY city. It is good for breakfast, light lunch and afternoon tea. It is too small and food is light for dinner. The selection is vast and tasty....Prices are not expensive. Two people romantic lunch and afternoon tea is highly recommended. Service is good, some of the waiters are friendly and put smiles on their faces, but not all. A few of them really "wood mouth wood face" no expression towards customers. But since you are going there for an inexpensive eatery, you should give it a trial. All dishes are good and beverages are up to standard. Customers are generally young and local, try it and I am sure you like the food, it will put you to feel like you are in Hong Kong tea house atmosphere.More

A clean and very busy place with excellent fast food Chinese style with several delicious dishes to choose from. Because of its location it is frequented by tourists looking for a quick bite and a hot cup of good tea. The service is iffy at...best depending on the time of the day and it becomes a little chaotic when the rush hour hits, rainy days or very cold ones. The staff is friendly and accommodating but sometimes tempers flare because of the uncertainty and lack of knowledge of the tourist crowds taking much too long to decide what they want or unable to understand the menu. Beware: this is not a full fledged restaurant but a quick way to have a bite with freshly cooked food, very clean and low priced for the area....but you'll find something good to eat if you read the menu carefully. Good fried rice, great soups and noodles.More

We were eager to eat at a "real" Chinese restaurant in Chinatown. Should have paid attention to the description "Hong Kong Style." We were the only non-Asians in the restaurant-which I thought was a good recommendation initially. We had fried rice with shrimp and a...chicken curry-the menu was not what we expected but is apparently in keeping with Hong Kong tradition. The food was barely edible and the service was lacking in attention-particularly to tourists who had no idea what to order! Only enjoyable part of the experience was the Jasmine green tea!More

We like to come to Cha Chan Tang for our Hong Kong cafe style food fix. We always have great service from the staff. They have a pretty big menu, lots of choices. Nearly all items are under $8. It's a busy place but no...one would rush you out like other places in Chinatown.More

Simply the worst service I received from any restaurant. Been there several times because food isn't bad and price is good. However, service is getting worse. It reached to the worst point when I brought my family in. We feel unwelcomed, ignored and disrespected. I...feel sorry for my family since their first meal in NYC has been ruined.More
