Eight different dishes, including apps, were each hot, fresh, and delicious. Great vegan and vegetarian options. Surprised and pleased.

First I'll confirm that everything we ordered was tasty and fresh. While I love Chinese food, the difference between it and Thai/Vietnamese is clearly evident here as there is little oil used and fresh garnishes provided (basil, lemon, sprouts). The main issue is price. The tom kha kai at $4.50 was delicious and good value but the Vietnamese Noodle Soup,... More

Good, not great food, poor service. Too bad. No wonder the place is largely empty. Though around the corner from where I live, I will never go again.

Just had the calamari with beef pad thai. They were both fantastic and the service was friendly and quick

The biggest mystery about Purple Ginger is why it isn't packed every day of the week. In a city with a lot of good Asian food, this place stands out. I have returned again and again, and have yet to be disappointed. The crispy fish entree is one of the best fish dishes I have ever had. The chef has... More

We ate here the first week this place was opened in 2012 and were very impressed with the quality of the food, the service and the atmosphere. Just paid another visit. Table of twelve. Again, excellent service and great food. Purple Ginger is like Asian fusion with a twist of Thai. I will return.

We usually head over to Mini Thai Cafe that serves the same menu but this weekend we made a discovery. The plates were consistent and maybe a little on the spicier side which I enjoyed but my significant other did not. 40.00 of food gets you a free bottle of wine. We got a chilean wine, it was full and... More

Staying in East Village

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
