Not bad for Members of the Public, who get a 20% discount, otherwise, it is expensive. Roast Chicken dish was steaming hot and tasty. The Tagliatelle was lukewarm but flavorful. It took a long time to place the order and receive our meals. Pre-theater, the...place is packed. Make a reservation!More

We had a group dinner there for work. The food was excellent and the service was great. We also enjoyed the atmosphere very much. I highly recommend having a meal there!

This is a quite nice restaurant right in The Public. Full of theater people after a performance. The service is pretty slow, but the food is surprisingly good.

We were seeing a play at the Public and decided to dine at their in house restaurant, the Library. The room is nicely decorated, comfortable and subdued. The menu had some intrecting choices and nice drink options. Our server was efficient and available. The food...wAs quit good and the dessert outstanding. It was an Apple crisp with vanilla ice cream and caramel. We had a fine experience and will go back.More

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary with a show at Joe’s Pub and dinner at The Library at the Public. Both were terrific. The Library is a lovely restaurant and bar serving great cocktails and delicious food. We shared the tacos appetizer and had...the burger and ribs for dinner with a side of Brussel sprouts. The burger is my wife’s favorite in NYC. Everything we excellent. Added bonuses: The Library offers a 10% discount for day of dining tickets for any show at the Public or Joe’s Pub and an additional 10% for members of the Public Theatre.More

Located upstairs from the Public Theater, the library is super convenient location to have some food and drinks before the show. We went to see a Jake gyllenhaal performance that started at 8 so we made reservations at 6:15 PM. It happened to be restaurant...week which was also nice because the restaurant is not inexpensive. The portions for restaurant week are typically little bit smaller but it was plenty for us. The cocktail menu was really inventive and very interesting. The waiter can guide you through the options. The menu itself is limited but in a good way. It doesn’t feel overwhelming and all the options are really nice. There are also vegetarian and vegan options. Definitely order a dessert to share or two desserts. They are excellentMore

What could be more convenient than dinner in the same building as the performance you are attending?! The dinner menu is rather limited and I was disappointed to discover that the menu was different than the one I had seen online, so the entrée I...had my mouth set for was not available. But I had tagliatelle with a tomato sauce that was quite good and my husband had a pasta dish with wild mushrooms that he loved. It was crowded and noisy, but so many restaurants these days are.More

You won’t miss your curtain at the Library. Service was friendly and efficient and the noise not too loud. Food good - Caesar Salads and Hummus starters were good, the flat iron steak very tender, the pasta and burgers also good. There were curious omissions...- no Bloody Mary mix to be found, no cream for coffee, no cappuccinos. Still, a convenient place on a cold night.More

We had a good pre-theatre dinner at this conveniently located restaurant at the Public Theatre. The menu is not overwhelming with good choices at prices in line with similar restaurants in the area. Service was great. Suggest reserving a table or risk not getting a...table.More

My husband and I had dinner here with a relative who works in the theatre. We came here after seeing a play next door at the Public Theater. This is a high end restaurant. My husband and I split a salad of roasted beets, apples,...goat cheese and hazelnuts. The apples slices were artfully arranged in a splay. The salad was delicious. Our entrees were excellent. My husband loved his Cavatelli Pasta with Wild Mushrooms and Parmesan. I tasted a bite and really like the sauce which included what I believe to be puréed mushrooms. I had Moroccan Chicken with Couscous, Fall Vegetables and Chermoula. I really liked it. The decor is wood-paneled with scattered books. This building is named for the former adjoining Astor library, the first public library in the United States, which now houses the Public Theater. The ambiance is great. It is quiet enough to talk even when the restaurant is filled with guests. I would definitely return to this downtown restaurant.More

Carolyn F has it right - the only things I would add relate to a new chef from last fall and an improvement in the dishes - not so much a complete revisions as many of the dishes sound the same but they taste differently... More
