About
Pull open the door and you feel the warmth of our intimate neighborhood bistro. Reminiscent of one you would find on a side street in Paris. A nod to tradition, Steak Frites is adorned with intricate tile and woodwork. Large hanging antiqued mirrors reflect the faces of jovial patrons; eclectic artwork and art deco fixtures fill the space with familiar energy and vibe. Grab a seat at the spacious bar, select a glass of wine from our French wine list or indulge in a classic cocktail. When visiting our 65-seat dining room, you can order from our contemporary rendition of bistro cuisine. Oysters, escargots, onion soup, steak frites, and baked-to-order soufflés are just some options we pull from the classic bistro playbook. We want Steak Frites to be a haven for the neighborhood on the west side. Drop in and find a comfortable spot to enjoy a glass of wine and some cheese or a complete tour de force meal with friends. We welcome you to Steak Frites! …Vive Le Bistro!

The food was mouth-watering with a menu comprised of all the authentic French Bistro classics. But the real difference - the staff extended a level of genuine, friendly hospitality that you won't necessarily find in Paris. Our server, Ana, was wonderful but almost everyone on the small team touched our table - even if it was just to remove an empty glass as they walked by. They are a fun crew who are committed to making sure you have an enjoyable evening and they never take their eye off the ball. The Steak Tartare was the best I've ever eaten, the Moules Frites was delicious and the price point would have been an great value anywhere but in NYC it was an exceptional value.
Cannot wait for our next visit to NYC!

I love this bistro, a medium-priced French haven near the Broadway theaters. The interior is a charming piece of France, the staff is helpful, and the price is right. I had the prix fixe menu, which included 3 lamb mix sausages (bigger than i expected) and delicious gigante beans (and I’m not even that fond of beans!). My hanger steak was perfectly medium rare and doused with melting butter, yum. Dessert was a delightful small chocolate souffle, and i just sighed realizing that 95 percent of America has nowhere to get a soufflé. Because we knew I’d never eat that much food, my husband only ordered a croque madame open-faced sandwich, which was hefty. Truly enjoyed this meal and can’t wait to come back and try the escargots. Thank you NYC and France!

Perfect for a pre-theater show on Broadway with its location and efficient service. Ok, dinner reservation was at 5PM on a Friday and there were only 2 other tables that time so... can't say for sure how service was when we left since that place was packed by then. The energy was popping and I could've stayed longer to take all that in but alas, we had a play to catch.
After getting our cocktails served, we started off with their bread service on the house and a platter of escargot swimming in butter and parsley. We could not resist sopping up all of that goodness with the bread until the plate was taken away and I'm glad the waiter finally did.
For mains, you clearly have to order Steak Frites here whether it's hanger steak or a more premium cut because it will not disappoint. The aroma of rosemary permeated throughout the entire restaurant, thanks to how they prepare their mouthwatering steak. Their fries were exactly how I like'em, thin cut and crispy. With just the right amount of mayo and ketchup, I was in heaven. Their Moules Frites were tasty but it didn't seem fresh that evening so that was a bit of a letdown. It didn't take long for them to redeem themselves though because we ordered dessert and their Chocolate Souffle was magical.

Dear Marissa, merci beaucoup for taking the time to review us on both Yelp and Tripadvisor. It was our pleasure to host you for your pre-theater dinner, next time you have to come without commitment so you can enjoy our vibe fully. Happy you enjoyed our French inspired cocktails and the escargots, you do need bread for that sauce of beurre persillé à l'ail. Pleased you liked your Steak Frites but on your next visit make sure you try one of our other cuts. Glad you night finished in a magical way and hope you had a good show after. A bientôt

My wife and I visited on a very busy Saturday night without a reservation. The two gentlemen on the door were very friendly and explained it would be at least 30 minted for table, maybe shorter at the bar. We agreed to wait for whatever came first. I noticed one of the hosts make space to accommodate us at the bar and within 5 minutes we were shown to our space at the bar. Very grateful indeed! The Barman was equally friendly and accommodating. Thank you. The food was average sadly. My wife’s grilled salmon arrived raw in the middle and sadly we sent it back - when it was returned it was still totally raw (outside cooked perfectly so clearly it was flashed in the pan too quickly). My steak was over cooked (asked for medium rare and it was medium well). I ate it anyway. The wine selection was very good.
Even though I rated a 3 I would return on a quieter day, since the staff were excellent and the food quality was good just not cooked properly.

Lunch of moules frites at Steak Frites Bistro was on my list of places to visit. Located on West 38th Street, the exterior has French windows with covered outdoor seating. I was seated at a table near the front. From the menu I ordered moules frites. A linen lined basket came with thick bread slices and a tiny ramekin of butter. The kettle of mussels arrived which had sprigs of thyme and bay leaves. Thin slivers of garlic and sliced onions perfumed the sauce which was ample. The mussels were plump and juicy. The frites were quite tasty although I prefer the ones at Boucherie more. I mopped the sauce with the bread.
As this is an old building the restrooms are in the basement. I had gone to wash my hands before lunch and was told that the last step was deep. I wondered how I would fare if I had drunk a glass of wine and wanted to venture downstairs..

We had heard from friends that Steak Frites rivaled the old, established NYC steak houses and they were absolutely right! The service is impeccable, the food is excellent and the atmosphere is energetic. Everyone we came into contact with was professional and courteous. The bartender, Bruno our server and Alex (who is in charge) were all friendly and helpful. The food is some of the best in NYC. We started with the Onion Soup Gratin and the Escargots. Then we shared the Cote De Boeuf for 2 and the Burger Francais. Everything was prepared perfectly and was delicious. The steak is as good or better than anywhere in NYC and it is less expensive than many of the other NYC steakhouses. We will certainly be back.

Wanted a nice meal to treat ourselves to in New York and we pre booked steak frites off someone else’s recommendation. We got a 32oz ribeye on to share which the chef cooks then shows you your steak before they serve it to you, which I thought was quite cool. The steak was really nice and good quality. The service was top also, so highly recommend.

After a day checking out Times Square and the surrounding area we made our way back to our intended destination this newly opened French Bistro on 9th avenue. It was a very easy place to get to coming from outside the city and there are parking garages nearby. Our family went to this specific location because of the Chef and we were not disappointed, you won’t be either. The bread, the atmosphere, the staff, oh and then there is the food. To say it was fantastic would be an understatement ! Thanks specifically to Todd, Derek and our server Juan who was awesome!

If you're looking for a good steak with a reasonable price (for a steakhouse), this is the place. We ordered the Cote de Boeuf, which is intended for two people. Delicious! It's first shown to you uncut and on a bed of smoking herbs and then cut up and plated with an herb butter sauce on top. The dish comes with fries and a salad. Steak was cooked perfectly and we got a good recommendation for a wine to pair. Friendly staff and the ambiance was warm and welcoming.

We looked for a restaurant that did good meat near our hotel. Reading some reviews we chose this place. Even though there is a weekly menu, we opted for Ă la carte dishes. The meat was delicious and cooked as requested. The fries and mashed potatoes are also excellent. Finally the service was also great, compared to other waiters in NYC, Juan was very kind to us.

We chose Steak Frites becasue of its close proximity to our hotel. We were pleasantly surprised with this somewhat random choice. Service was top notch as was the food. Onion soup is often not perfected at many places, but they know how to make it well. Mixed review among our group on the escargots - they have a non-tradional recipe. The prix fix menu is a real bargain and you are certain to be full. Go for the soufflé for desert which is made to order. French cocktails, wine and draft beer go well with the food.

This place offers all your classic bistro dishes. We had a simple omelette, a side of green beans, mussels with frites and ended with a plate of cheese. All were well prepared, tasty & simple in their execution. The mood is relaxed. The setting is comfortable. Service from Lucas was both knowledgeable & polite. The floor manager handled everything with ease. If you're totally happy with classic comfort food you will be satisfied here.

I came here for NYC restaurant week with a few friends and we were neither impressed nor unimpressed with the food. The escargot had just a tad bit too much garlic - still good through. The steak frites was different from what I expected because it was a gigantic 8 oz cube of meat which made it tricky to cook it to everyone's different rarities. I like mine medium rare but only the inner cube of the meat was actually cooked correctly. The further out I cut the more well done it got which made it really chewy and flavorless. The chocolate soufflé was good, a bit chalky and dry at parts but not bad. It was on the cheaper side of the restaurant week prices and the proportions were much more than what we expected but the quality, unfortunately, suffered. All in all, just an ok French Bistro.

This was our second visit to Steak Frites in the past six months. I can happily report that they have maintained their consistency. Food was flavourful. Service was top notch.
We stuck with the traditional: green salad, hanger steak, omelette & green beans. The accompanying drinks: Lillet, orange, chardonnay & bordeaux were spot on. The place had good energy. At 9:00 PM the place was packed & humming.
Stellar service from Sebastian who was behind the bar. Simple, unpretentious, well prepared food with gentle service is what you'll find at Steak Frites.

Fries were great. Wanted sirloin but they didn't have any. This was tough as they only had three steak offerings. Went with the hanger steak and it was so tough we could barely cut it. I didn't eat any of mine and my husband ate about 1/3 of his. We had a show after so didn't send it back (wasn't sure what they could really do anyway) - and they didn't ask why we didn't eat it.
