About
Mermaid Oyster Bar is a family of casually sophisticated seafood restaurants born in New York in 2003.

Starting out in Manhattan’s East Village as a spot-on rendition of a casual New England fish shack, The Mermaid Inn has morphed into an American seafood brasserie, replete with style, hospitality and a menu marked by bold and seasonally inspired cuisine. The Mermaid Inn has been designed to evoke the feeling of being on a mini vacation in a small seaside village.

Greeting when we walked in was very friendly and we were immediately seated at a good table for two. We did have a reservation and we were before the rush as by the time we left, it was packed. Very warm environment and not too loud for my SO who has tinnitus. Waitress was super friendly and helped us figure out drink requests and food allergies. We ordered from Happy Hour menu - mini fish tacos, mini clam chowder, salmon tartar, and calamari. The food was rather bland and average but good. However, I think all restaurants should do the mini soup thing - perfect serving. Martinis were awesome! Must say we did not order oysters (ie oyster bar) or mains so food experience was limited. I would go back for oysters and martinis!

In the space where Heartland Brew Pub was located. Seems like same layout with the beer vats now taken by a seafood counter. Stopped in for Happy Hour after Some Like It Hot matinee. Happy Hour Good price beer, oysters. Happy hour sliders & shrimp while quite good, a little pricey even for Times Square. Sat at table, place is quite loud. Decided to stay for dinner, we had the Angus burger, Whole branzino, key lime tart. Everything was very tasty, hot, made just right. Good service, made last call order for Happy Hour. Good option for finer dining.

I live in NYC and am frequently in the Times Square area. I have a list of Times Square recommended restaurants that I provide friends and family when they come to NYC to see Broadway shows. At the top of that list is Mermaid Oyster Bar. My wife and I eat dinner here 2 - 4 times a month before going to shows. Last night we dined here again and I said its time to share with everyone why I love this restaurant. First reason, the food. It is always delicious and consistent. And the food comes out of the kitchen pretty quick. I typically have a 5:15 reservation for a 7:00 show. We often start with and share chef choice oysters (4 - 5:30 its Happy Hour with $2 oysters), tuna crudo, and house salad. Other appetizers I love include east coast oysters, grilled shrimp and avocado slider, mermaid wedge salad, butternut squash risotto, lobster knuckles escargot, and kale salad. Favorite entrees include salmon, fish tacos (there are 3 to an order), strip steak (yes, its a seafood restaurant, but trust me the steak is fantastic - had it last night), pecan crusted cod and tuna. Second reason I love this restaurant, the service. Everyone that works here is lovely. I have probably had every waiter in the restaurant by now, and they are all very nice and attentive. Yes, we have some favorites, but request a special table or area to be seated. We are happy with everyone at the restaurant. Never ever had food or service that wasn't perfect. Lastly, the only drinks we tend to order are margaritas, and glasses of white wine. I know they have many other cocktails and drinks but I honestly can't comment on them. They have a busy bar area so I suspect they are good. I also want to mention this is a large restaurant. They can easily accommodate large groups, and often can accommodate last minute reservations. So, take it from a native New Yorker, this is a great restaurant and even worth the trip if your not going to a Broadway show. Ok, one more thing, Mermaid Oyster Bar Times Square has a sister restaurant The Mermaid Inn in Chelsea, and another oyster bar in Greenwich Village. I've eaten at those locations too. They are equally fantastic. I can't wait for the new Upper West Side location to open. Enjoy!!!!

I rarely eat in Time square because it's usually a tourist trap: mediocre food, poor service, overpriced, and you're just a number. My boyfriend and I decided to give it a chance since we love the one downtown and we had tickets for a play. Unfortunately, this restaurant fit the pattern. Although I would not say it was horrible. The service wasn't great and it The food wasn't on par with the other locations we've been to which we love. Highly suggest visiting this restaurant but not the one in times square.

Mermaid Oyster Bar was the perfect dinner place after our Saturday matinee on Broadway. We were seated near the oyster bar, so we had a great view of the platters of oysters, clams and other seafood being served. When I made the reservation, I noted it was our 50th wedding anniversary, but it was still a pleasant surprise when the manager brought us glasses of champaign. Our server, Clare, was attentive, helpful and friendly on a busy evening. We ordered four East Coast Chunu Oysters for an appetizer and enjoyed them so much we ordered four more. For entrees, we ordered the Maine Sea Scallops appetizer and Baby Bok Choy side and Seared Yellowfin Tuna in a Miso Mayo Sauce. Excellent, fresh seafood! This was the best meal of our six-day stay in NYC and was only three blocks from our hotel.

This was a choice made simply for convenience before the theatre on our first night in the city! It was an amazing experience! The service was impeccable and the food was fantastic! The chef's choice oysters for oyster Happy Hour were wonderful. The salmon tartar delectable. The Shrimp Avocado sliders, Blackened fish tacos, and Linguine with clams were perfect! The cocktails and wine completed the amazing dinner! The staff were aware of our show time and made sure we were served with plenty of time to enjoy our dinner with out feeling rushed! Will go back again on our next visit!

By the time we saw this place, it was nearing closing time (didn't know until we were the only ones there). We were well taken care of by their waitstaff. We ordered iced tea and soda (not big drinkers), and 3 appetizer dishes. They were: New England Clam Chowder, with a heavy bacon presence, Lobster Knuckles prepared escargot style, and a lovely grilled pear salad. All were delicious. Oh, and the Parker House rolls were to die for.

Had lunch there during NYC Restaurant week - very poor. the blackened fish tacos were bland & very small. the Nicoise app - strange plating - a small scoop of salad w/ some potatoes, hard boiled eggs slices next to smoked salmon. first & last time I would go here.

A few minutes from TIMES SQUARE very nice restaurant. We ate good salmon and drank good wine, all in a welcoming and kind environment. The only flaw is the times, as good Italians we booked at 8.30pm... it must be taken into consideration that NY has different times when we arrived we had to order in a hurry because the kitchen was close to closing... at 9.45pm in the restaurant there were only us left at the mercy of the waiters eager to finish cleaning and close. Still recommended

For a trip to New York we planned a number of restaurants to visit and we couldn't have made a better choice. The atmosphere is softly lit, suitable for a bit of identity, including the arrangement of the tables, but also for an evening with friends. The raw material was top quality and local, remaining on the American continent. The staff was the strong point, always kind and helpful, even if there was a mistake in understanding (my problem), they immediately resolved it with a smile The price to be in New York in Times Square with this quality is more than honest.

Mermaid continues to be one of the all-time great New York places for both comfort food and inventive cooking, and for seafood and everything else. We’ve been going here for years and it never disappoints. Lobster roll, clam chowder, salmon, hush puppies, even the Parker House rolls.

It was my birthday lunch. I ordered the "GRAND PLATTER", which comes with twelve oysters, six clams, tuna crudo, shrimp cocktail & salmon tartare. It's a great portion of food, for those looking for a lighter lunch, it's a great suggestion. Everything very fresh, as it should be. Standard service.

The food and atmosphere was amazing. Everything on the menu is full of flavor and delicious. Jose Isaza the Manager stopped by and chatted a bit, full of personality and made the experience. Our server Keely knew the menu, order some things for us and her recommendations were outstanding. We will be back!!! Thank you everyone for a beautiful evening!

We went on Saturday night for dinner here at The Mermaid Oyster bar in Times Square! The food was absolutely amazing. We had Iceburg wedge, Risotto, Oysters, Tuna. We felt like Kings and Queens. The service was impeccable. Our waiter Christian explained the food to us like he was eating it! We recommend anyone that wants a great dinner with great service to go here. The decor is fun and the food is outstanding!

The oysters are delicious. $2 each during Happy Hour. Everything on the happy hour menu is excellent. Can recommend them all. I was in New York for 9 nights & dined here 3 times. The service is good & it is a really lovely restaurant. Happy hours is from 4pm to 5.30pm everyday. The food comes quickly & the staff are friendly. Cocktails are very good $12 during Happy Hour.
