We just found The Masala Wala by chance and it ended up being the very best experience in a restaurant in NY. The food was absolutely tasty and the service was just great! It was like having a dreamy NY experience :) thanks, guys!! We will come back for sure!

I'm not sure why other reviews rate this restaurant. My colleague and I were disappointed by the quality of food and service. Food was bland. Not what you would expect. One to miss.

Due to the reviews my colleague and I decided to go here, terrible disappointment. The vegetarian starters were greasy and bland. Tandoori chicken was so undercooked I had a pool of blood on my plate. I would definitely not recommend the food!

if Mamma were an Indian man who took enormous pride in his excellent food offerings and delightfully friendly staff. It has been a long time since I was in a restaurant at which the proprietor stopped at every table, learned a little about each guest, and was most welcoming. My only regret is that we didn't ask the MasalaWala himself... More

My wife and I were here in early December and enjoyed the food and great service. I enjoy spicy food, and had my dish was served "Indian spicy". It was outstanding. Would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys authentic Indian food. THE MasalaWala happened to be at the restaurant that night and was very gracious asking how our... More

We have travelled far and wide, eaten Indian food all over and in homes. This meal was fantastic. All the food was excellent. The service was great and the owner could not have been more charming, kind and accommodating if we were his house guests. If you are looking for a tasty, good value and authentic Indian meal - this... More

After reading the reviews I decided I couldn't miss this place but what a disappointment. Although the portions were large, the food was bland and belonged in a buffet at best. The pakoras had no seasoning from what I could detect and the tikka masala chicken floated in a giant bowel of tomato cream sauce. The paneer was no better.... More

This restaurant serves up freshly made delicious Indian food that will impress you! The samosas were fresh and crisply baked; the jahlfreze had fresh lamb and the perfect spice level (also perfectly described by our excellent server). Because it's fresh it takes a bit of time to have brought to your table- but fret not! It's worth the wait.

We found this restaurant by chance. We had a great time and would recommend. Seating - we got a seat without a reservation at around 7 pm on a Thursday night. The restaurant takes bookings. It's quite small and has space for approximately 30 - 40 patients so would probably get very busy / popular at the weekend. Atmosphere -... More

Staying in Lower East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Lower East Side
Straddling the bridge between New York’s thriving immigrant past and its modern transformation into a beacon of global art and culture, the Lower East Side is one of the most dynamic neighborhoods in the city. The blocks of tenements that represented the promise and blight of the Lower East Side immigrant experience now command top dollar for new residents. Right next to old-world delis, 24-hour bodegas, and the garment shops of Orchard Street, you’ll find hip clubs, fashionable bistros, and luxury hotels beckoning at all hours of the evening. If you love nightlife and live music, it’s hard to beat the scene here.
