This was certainly one of the best meals my friend and I had on our latest visit to New York. The presentation and flavour of the food was incredible. Highly recommend the oysters! Staff were great. Service terrific. Highly recommend.

I went to Bell Book and Candle for Birthday drinks and dinner for 6 and was so impressed with this place. The restaurant is located on a charming street in the west village away from the craziness and honking horns. We ordered drinks at the...bar and loved all of the special cocktails we ordered from the menu. The dining room was lively but not too loud and our server was helpful and very attentive throughout the night. Everyone loved the tuna, lambchop, and lobster taco appetizers - great to share! Plus, the Fried Chicken and Patty Melt were equally amazing. This place is a true NYC gem!More

My husband and I came here for a special Christmas dinner and were sorely disappointed. The waitress was extremely rude and condescending and would disappear for long 30 minute stretches at a time. My appetizer was forgotten and my main dish came out wrong and...there was no apology, however when the bill came we saw they tried to double charge us for my main dish. Will definitely NOT be coming back here and will make sure our family and fiends know what a horrible experience we had.More

This spot is a hidden gem. The vibe is quaint and low key and the service is amazing. We ordered the duck and the burger and both were amazing. The wine selection was incredible. Definitely recommend this spot for dinner and drinks to experience the...West Village.More

I was impressed by the cozy atmosphere and good vibe when we walked in, but with a party of 6 we were seated away from the nice part and at the farthest table back by the kitchen. The staff moved us closer in at my...request and gave us a free round of drinks when we discovered a bug on the table. The food was adequate, but nothing memorable.More

The room is comfortable and the service is good. The cocktails are creative and tasty. The food is alright. The only plate that we had that might make me want to return was the jalapeño deviled eggs.

We are visiting NYC and read about the happy hour here with $1 oysters so were we’re excited. Walked a mile and a half, made it there 15 minutes after happy hour started an NO WHERE to sit in this TINY bar. We asked if...we could sit in the EMPTY dining room but we’re told that was against policy and happy hour was only offered at the bar. Again, 20 seats max by my estimate. We left. Hungry. Gave our money to another place.More

Dined here on a recent trip with friends to New York. What an unexpected pleasure to find good food, excellent service and portions that do not make you feel full before you even eat. Cob salad is excellent as was the speciality pie. We will...be back to enjoy your menu again.More

A friend and I walked in with out a reservation the night before Valentine's Day. We were greeted by a cheerful bartender and escorted to a roomy booth! Apps: Crispy Oysters Tuna tartar Lobster tacos Crispy Pork Salad Entree: Short ribs Everything about our meal...was perfect. Brenda helped guide us through the menu and recommended a few things. She was very knowledgable and sweet! I highly recommend coming here and trying the items I did because they were awesome! I'll def be back!More

We walked in at about 6pm and got seated right away. There was a happy hour special going on at the bar, but we opted for a table instead. We started with oysters and lobster spring rolls - off to a great start. Then, we...had the ribs and the chicken - great mains. Then, we ended it off with the the ice cream sandwiches to share - also great! I wish I had more room in my belly because there were a few more items on the menu that I was eyeing!More

I come to Bell Book & Candle with my friends as often as I can. Their food is some of the best in the city and it feels like a hidden gem. However, last night, they outdid themselves. It was one of the best Valentines...dinners I’ve ever had. Aside from the great company I had, every morsel down to the last drop was DELICIOUS! I’ll be dreaming about those scallops and lobster tacos. Plus now I think it’s official- BBC is my all time favorite restaurant downtown.More

Down the stairs on west 10th street is my west village hang of choice -- great food, drinks and friendly staff. They have their own hydroponic garden on the roof in summer (most importantly the mint for their amazing mojitos!) which is a cool feature....Sometimes do a night at the bar with tons of yummy choices - lobster taco and quesadilla are awesome - or for the full on dinner experience head in to the dining room. Especially love the big booths for larger groups. The have a great wine list too. The Monday night fried chicken special is the stuff of dreams, and don't miss the mini ice cream sandwiches for dessert. Had a birthday party one year at their chef's table which is super cool too. Love BBC!More

The place is a little difficult to find at night and easy to overlook because it's downstairs at basement level, but what a gem. Started with Strawberry salad and mushrooms and the mains were Yellow Fin Tuna and Gin and Tonic Salmon. Dessert was Bread...Pudding, (one of my fav and a difficult find in NYC). All very delicious. The noise level is quiet although there is piped music being played. The decor is pleasant. Service was attentive and timely. Will visit again.More
