We went here for brunch on my birthday and it was excellent! I was hesitant when I made our reservation because I use a wheelchair and there was no elevator to get upstairs to the champagne brunch, but the regular brunch downstairs was incredible! The decor is great and the food is awesome. We had the avocado toast and it... More

Beauty and Essex was lovely inside, beautifully decorated, although a little dark. Unfortunately my seat was on the aisle and I got bumped every time someone walked past, smaller tables would be better. The menu is not extensive, but enough options. One of my tables selections came out cold and had to go back. I had the burger, which wasn't... More

Loved the atmosphere here. My best friend and I went here on a Friday night. The place was packed, music fun, and the patrons were friendly but polite. I'm not much of a bar person, but the drinks were great, and even though it was loud inside, we were still able to enjoy our conversation.

Soho restaurant with a twist...Expensive Pawn shop at the front and a surprise when the back doors are opened. Servers were attentive, food was interesting and unique atmosphere. Ladies,...have to check out the restrooms - classy.

Called the hostess I would be there in 30 min and she assured us we would be able to get seated as we walked in--however that was not the case. So that was the only down side--we were seated upstairs in the lounge so it wasn't the best table for having a sit down dinner but the room was beautifully... More

Hip and cool place! Kind of hidden behind a shop for instruments and jewelry, an elegant bar/restaurant emerges. We were there a Friday evening and after 18.15 the place was crowded with glamourish people. We only had drinks and did not eat. Great place for drinks!

Beauty and Essex is located in the rear of a functioning jewelry store but is well-marked. It is a rich, deep dark space with crystal chandeliers and great ambiance. This restaurant is best suited for groups as the plates are tapas-sized. The food was outstanding and each plate left one wanting a bit more. We loved the tomato soup and... More

So you walk through the sketchy pawnshop and the door man gives you an understanding nod. You emerge on the other side - its got a time warp kind of feel. Like you stumbled into a party in the 30's. The food is delicious, the cocktails are perfect and the atmosphere is full of energy and excitement.

Located through a small door at the back of a vintage shop Beauty & Essex opens up into a grand staircase and bar full of lively party goers, the grand sweeping staircase leads up to a restaurant serving great food and even better cocktails, highly recommend this place if you are in NY

Loved every moment of my evening visit here, from the entrance through the pawn shop, drinks at the bar and a great dinner. Drinks were on the pricey side but as expected, the music was on point with several people around the bar area. You will be told your table is not ready on arrival despite your booking, but the... Staying in Lower East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Lower East Side
Straddling the bridge between New York’s thriving immigrant past and its modern transformation into a beacon of global art and culture, the Lower East Side is one of the most dynamic neighborhoods in the city. The blocks of tenements that represented the promise and blight of the Lower East Side immigrant experience now command top dollar for new residents. Right next to old-world delis, 24-hour bodegas, and the garment shops of Orchard Street, you’ll find hip clubs, fashionable bistros, and luxury hotels beckoning at all hours of the evening. If you love nightlife and live music, it’s hard to beat the scene here.
