Wow, we had two tables and were in total a party of 11, no one was disappointed, on the contrary we all loved every dish and could not get enough of each. This one I will visit again on my next trip and explore further their tapas menu.

At first I thought it was a little gimmicky but the food, service and atmosphere we're AWESOME!! We were on a family trip for the weekend and this was definitely the best meal we had all weekend. All the food was delicious! Great drinks as well. Service was great as well. I highly recommend this restaurant.

If you only go out to one restaurant in New York, make it Beauty & Essex. It is fantastic! Firstly the atmosphere. You can't see the restaurant from the street - it's just a gorgeous vintage pawn shop in Soho. But behind a door in the shop, the restaurant and Bar are buzzing with people. Start with a drink upstairs... More

This place was recommended to me by a friend who had lived in NYC. We never would have found this place if she hadn't told us about it, and I'm so glad we came! Just by entering the old pawn shop, we knew we were in for a treat! Bustling and busy, but with a glamorous feel, we felt fully... More

Wouldn't recommend as a must visit place. The place is dark and very loud. We were sat on a round table in the middle at the front and on most occasions were knocked sideways by the staff squeezing by. The food concept is overly complicated and the meals presented don't scream "sharing plates" as recommned. It's pretty expensive for what... More

We popped into this restaurant during restaurant week. The entrance is hidden behind an ultra hip pawn shop. With out reservations we were able to garner a seat at the bar for dinner. The decor is imaginative, and songs from the 80's played in the bar. The food was wonderful, as well as the drinks. GiGi was a friendly curator... More

Food is very good, but it felt like a production line with no time to enjoy what is a unique place. Given the cost I wanted it to last a little longer!

Beauty and essex is a fantastic hidden restaurant, with it's entrance located through a pawn store. Drinks: 5/5 Food: 5/5 Atmosphere: 5/5 Tips: Take a visit to the ladies bathroom with your girlfriends, add a a tip to the champagne bucket for a glass of free bubbles. Enjoy!

My son and I had a wonderful dinnertime experience at Beauty and Essex. My son loved the mini taco appetizer and our entrees were excellent as well (short ribs and chicken). Interesting place to people watch and the pawn shop entrance was amusing. I would definitely recommend a visit to this restaurant.

This restaurant is a gem in New York. You enter through a pawn shop to a noisy, lively bar and restaurant in the back. If you want a intimate place do not go here because the music is at a max and it can be difficult to hear people in your party but if you love a party,go. The food... More

Staying in Lower East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Lower East Side
Straddling the bridge between New York’s thriving immigrant past and its modern transformation into a beacon of global art and culture, the Lower East Side is one of the most dynamic neighborhoods in the city. The blocks of tenements that represented the promise and blight of the Lower East Side immigrant experience now command top dollar for new residents. Right next to old-world delis, 24-hour bodegas, and the garment shops of Orchard Street, you’ll find hip clubs, fashionable bistros, and luxury hotels beckoning at all hours of the evening. If you love nightlife and live music, it’s hard to beat the scene here.
