Tomato soup dumplings were my absolute favourite...what a brilliant idea, although anything is good with bacon. Cool atmosphere and very friendly staff, absolutely packed but still felt like given individual attention which we are impressed by. Just wish I lived closer to visit more often!

I love the entrance through the pawn shop which opens up into this greatly lit busy bar & restaurant. The decor is superb and the waiting staff are very friendly in helping you understand the menu and how much to order for our large group size. We started with some cocktails which were well presented and some of them were... More

Trendy and lively place with great atmosphere. Went with another couple who live in NY and it was their choice so expected a decent night. Did not fail to deliver albeit the food was the biggest surprise as usually some of these places are a little "form over substance" but the food was excellent. The steak tartare was my favourite... Well we survived the Beauty and Essex, on entering, the security was sensational, we were ushered through a small shop front into a full on night club, after about 30 minutes we were allocated a table/booth upstairs yes its a bit loud but didn't expect anything else, we ordered a few dishes from the menu which were great although it... As with most tapas restaurants you feel you end up leaving with an empty wallet. Still worth going as it is a night out and fun to select your dishes with a group of friends. Try the wonton dumplings.

Nestled behind a gitar shop is this trendy hotspot located. While waiting for a table we had a glass of wine at the bar. If you prefer cocktails, this is a great place to be. The food menu seams a bit complicated with shared dishes and main dishes all different from size. As we were a group of 5, the... More

Perhaps the best the best thing about this restaurant is the super cool atmosphere, clientele and setting. The food was very very good but the service was a little patchy and the prices rather high. I have had better food but I was happy overall because of the setting and I would go again.

We visited Beauty & Essex on a Thursday evening for a great birthday celebration for my sister. The whole place is fun, the food is fantastic very high quality, we chose 8 different plates, from starters to main course. There were 4 of us at the table and they asked if we would like 4 of each of the ingredients... More

We had a wonderful meal here with great service and excellent food. After you enter through the pawn shop, you are in a long restaurant that is very dark - we all had our iPhones out to read the menus. The service is extremely helpful, wine very nice and food to die for. We shared the fish & chip tacos... More

We where a group of 8 who went there for dinner and drinks! Had many different courses to share and the waiter was very helpful to put together a nice selection. The atmosphere is perfect to set the mood for the night and in the ladies room you can get champagne while you powder your nose! Super fun night!

Staying in Lower East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Lower East Side
Straddling the bridge between New York’s thriving immigrant past and its modern transformation into a beacon of global art and culture, the Lower East Side is one of the most dynamic neighborhoods in the city. The blocks of tenements that represented the promise and blight of the Lower East Side immigrant experience now command top dollar for new residents. Right next to old-world delis, 24-hour bodegas, and the garment shops of Orchard Street, you’ll find hip clubs, fashionable bistros, and luxury hotels beckoning at all hours of the evening. If you love nightlife and live music, it’s hard to beat the scene here.
