In a Big Apple heatwave in late October (28C), very unsuitably dressed, we were hot and weary walking from Downtown to Mid-Town through the Tribeca neighbourhood early afternoon. A choice of restaurants was available - I don't know why we chose South's but we were very glad we did! Friendly service, freshly prepared food - a BLT with fries and... More

We were walking by on a recent Saturday and stopped in for brunch based on decent reviews. I would classify South's as so-so, just ok. The server was a little slow taking orders although apologetic, the food was average, the mimosas (an included option with brunch) were a little watery.

We ate dinner at South's this past weekend. It's across the street from The Roxy hotel. We arrived at 6 pm and it was very quiet. Despite this it took so long to get served. Calamari was fees as was the bison burger. Cream of mushroom soup was incredible! The poor service was inexcusable but the food was so good!

South's is a great local bar with an extensive food menu. Great selection of beers and wine. Food was very reasonably price, freshly cooked with some real old classics on the menu

Dropped in one afternoon for a couple of beers, and the food looked really good, so we came back for dinner that evening. We were not disappointed! Great selection of food and drinks, friendly staff, and the place has a "local" vibe to it, not touristy. Food was delicious and reasonably priced. I'd happily eat here again!

Joined a friend on a business trip and ended up at a hotel between Tribeca and Soho, when I normally stay in Midtown. What a delightful surprise to find South's. Being directionally challenged even with the help of SIRI, I accidentally found this restaurant. It was obvious that they are consumer friendly. A group of people were gathered at the... More

Met my boyfriend in the area, and I was STARVING. He googled a few places and we decided to try this one. The sign outside said "Happy Hour 4-8pm" And they had mac n cheese. We almost stopped at the place next door, because there was a staff member outside giving us info. But we decided to go with Happy... More

We needed a quick bite after our flight and ended up here. Really nice small establishment which had some great food. We had the guacamole burger with fries and the chicken pasta. Both were great. Excellent atmosphere as well. Maybe a little bit too dark in a few places, but it sets a good mood.

A fairly non-descript local bar serving American food. Good value for money. I had the chili - nothing special, but nice enough. My son had the Shepard's Pie - it was good. The servings were substantial and not expensive. Good service.

Staying in TriBeCa

Neighborhood Profile
TriBeCa
What’s in a name? In this case it is the unique title of “Triangle Below Canal Street” that became a popular nickname in the 1970s. An attractive neighborhood filled with handsome lofts on the edge of the Financial District, this lovely slice of Manhattan offers plenty of fine dining experiences and art galleries. Plus, it’s home to the city’s most exciting film event, the Tribeca Film Festival, that takes place here every year. TriBeCa is a great place to take a leisurely stroll before stopping into one of the many local restaurants or bars for a satisfying meal and cocktail. You’ll see families out for an afternoon walk, and don’t be surprised to come up with the occasional celebrity sighting. With such a great vibe, many of the city’s most famous residents call this neighborhood home.
