We have been to a few Spanish restaurants in town but this one by far is the best one we have been to. We ordered octopus, gambas and chorizos as appetizers and they were great. But the best is the squid ink paella....outstanding! Last but not least, the hostess and the servers were so friendly...some of the best I have... More

Ordered paella for 3, make it 4, no I meant 3, Service accommodated all our changes with grace and produced a delicious meaty meal. The blue cheese dates were beyond wonderful. What a tasty treat. Sangria was fruity without being sweet. Highly recommend .

We had no problem getting a table on time. The staff was friendly and the food was really good. I enjoyed the seafood paella.

We dined on the black paella which is done with the ink of squid to attain that color. The flavor and the juices of it were perfect for my palate. A bit on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. Sangria was too sweet and not enough alcohol but the food made up for it.

We have been here three times - twice for tapas and drinks at the bar in the evening and once for brunch. Happy hour is good value and the food is delicious. The staff are very friendly and upbeat. Love the decor and spaciousness. Generous wine servings! Brunch was probably forgettable and they were almost empty while other restaurants nearby... More

Came here for dinner. The paella and clam appetizer were fine, but nothing amazing. Service is good and atmosphere is good with some outdoor space as well.

Dropped into this little restaurant for a light meal while waiting for friends to fly in for dinner. The calamares a la plancha were great and I tried two different types of Spanish garnachas. It was more than enough knowing I would have dinner two or three hours later. The BEST thing about the place was a Spanish guitarist playing... More

Despite high expectations, based on other reviews, maybe we hit an off night. Mediocre food, rude service (waitstaff removing 1/4 filled wine glasses from table) and incredibly noisy

Hit Socarrat with my wife and daughter. It was a little early so we decided to just do Tapas and skip the Paella. The tapas were OK but the portions were small (even for tapas) so you needed a ton of them and that really added up. Even after a few rounds of them we still left hungry and that... More

The atmosphere was very nice and the food was good, but the waiter was a bit pushy and even if the menu has many dishes at reasonable prices you need to order several because they are very small (and your main dish takes 40 minutes to arrive so you need something to do in the meanwhile).

Socarrat Nolita's ambience denotes feelings of warmth, comfort and hospitality. Building on its sister restaurant's identity as a small, intimate space comprised primarily of one large communal table, the restaurant also offers banquette, bar and table seating.

Socarrat, the quintessence of the perfect paella and for which the restaurant is named, is the delectable, sensuous crust that forms on the bottom of the paella pan when the liquid is rendered and the rice reaches its peak of succulence. The menu, an authentic array of delicious dishes from the regions of Spain specializing in traditional tapas with an accent on paella and fideua (which substitutes fried noodles for rice) that can be characterized as a true exploration for the palette.

Socarrat Nolita also offers several tapas, wines by the glass, Spanish desserts, and sangria.

Staying in Nolita

Neighborhood Profile
Despite being just off of busy Houston Street, Nolita maintains a low-key vibe that makes it a pleasant retreat in the heart of lower Manhattan. Short for “North of Little Italy,” Nolita was once considered to be part of Little Italy. Today, the neighborhood is popular with young fashionistas popping in and out of the chic independent boutiques that line Mulberry, Mott and Elizabeth Streets. In addition to shopping, there are cozy restaurants and sidewalk cafes serving everything from new-school Italian food to the world-famous cronuts. While small in size (Nolita stretches just a few blocks in each direction), it’s a great neighborhood to spend an afternoon people watching, window-shopping, and grabbing a bite to eat.
