I was visiting the City with a group of friends to attend a play at Lincoln Center and we made our reservation a week in advance. Our group was excited for our brunch and arrived prior to the establishment opening! Our group ordered our meal...at the same time and 45 mins later there were a few people in the group that received their food order? The rest of the group didn’t receive our food until 60 minutes later?! As we waited for our food we attempted to get some resolution through our waitress as well as the manager! We pointed out other patrons who arrived after our group had received their food and were finished their meal! We also pointed out those waiting to be seated over 1 1/2 hours as we were waiting for our food and they had reservations?! The establishment’s approach to addressing the matter was at first being defensive and saying the ‘kitchen was backed up’ or giving standards responses of the cause was outside of their control and the last excuse given was blaming ‘us’ the ‘group’ ..saying we didn’t put our order in at the same time?! Not accurate! Once the food arrived it was cold! I ordered the Waffle & Catfish! I packed it up and took it home…upon reheating..the catfish was bland..needed much seasoning! What was disappointing about this interaction is that when we reached out to the owner ‘in real time’ while at the restaurant through email - he responded today on another platform. It was explained to the owner the intent is not to vilify the business, but to seek resolution on the matter! Sadly, the engagement with the owner was less than satisfactory! I want the Travel community to be aware and prepared for an accurate accounting of how the experience is at this restaurant during brunch time hours!More

First impression while and OK. There are people sitting outside dining. The foyer was packed with people waiting to be seated the inside lobby had people still waiting to get a seat. I’m grateful that I made reservations. I was seated immediately. The host was...very kind. I was seated and given a menu about 10 minutes passed and the host noticed that no one had taken my order so he took it and placed it for me. The food came out rather quickly. The waitress was pleasant, she checked in on me several times during my meal. I was having a bad day so I was praying that I didn’t look suicidal or anything, however; I’ve never been in this atmosphere before. So it may just be the norm for this place. I ordered the shrimp and grits and a waffle to go. The flavor was there for the sauce. It was a smokey something going on. The shrimp were large may have been jumbo to start out before cooking nonetheless they arrived very visible to the eye. The flavor on the shrimp good. There was an ample amount of bacon pieces waltzing across the star attraction (them grits) Now them grits had way too much cheese for me. That’s my preference. The grits also tasted as if they were not salted in the water and no butter ever touched them. I took it to go to see if I could improve them at home. For that price I had to try. Most of the money I waste is on bad food. A bit of salt and butter improved them somewhat. It was still too cheesy for me. To be fair to the restaurant they do say cheesy grits and did I mention they even toss more cheese on top of the dish with the bacon. I know somebody is on their way over now from this review. Just ask for salt and butter on the side. Now let me tell you about that red velvet waffle, oh my, oh my cooked perfect not soggy as I have read, it was absolutely hush your mouth delicious. I’m glad I bought it home too. I’m eating it in sections as dessert. I may come back but no time soon. I already know what to order to go. And oh the atmosphere was very lively, as I said it was crowded. The music was good. The football game was playing on two televisions on each side of the bar. The bar is also very long almost as long as the room. I did see kids there but with so much alcohol flowing I would think twice.More

Food was alright considering the flies that kept coming all in our faces. The server was ok until we inquired about the gratuity being included in the bill for just 2ppl. Ridiculous, how she got snappy because we asked. With the nerve to say we...should have said something before! With that we will never return to this establishment! So many other spots to eat with way better food and service!More

Family place. Warm and welcoming. Interesting menu. Probably too long. We took the house specialties : red velvet pancake an steak with eggs. For the price of 22 dollars I would expect at least a five pancake stack instead of 3 but the taste was...good.More

Service is awful. We reserved 2 weeks in advance. Hey the day of they tell us they have 1 server. Waited 2 hours for dinner. Once food came out it was ICE COLD. We complained about the food and were told “sorry we only have...the one server.” We might be able to give 10% off. We were a group of 18. We there since 5 and at 9pm were still there. Plates were never moved from the table, we had to take our own drink orders. HORRIBLE!! Not going back.More

This waa definitely a cute place as described by some of mt friends. It had a nice adult "vibe". My problem was for every item we first ordered they did not have it. Some of these were their signature items. I had a rather good...size party and we were disappointed Also the servers were not too attentive but they huddled in the corner talking. With all of those things I might consider to go back, with my fingers crossed because I like the vibe.More

The service and food were impeccable. I travel a lot of work and I will have to say that it is rare when you have excellent service and food that's top-notch. I am looking forward to visiting Chocolat when I come back to NYC.

Food is good. Drinks are weak and expensive. Happy hour is not happy hour! It’s just too expensive. Music was good and a nice vibe.

I came here with family for a meal one evening, and we were seated at an alcove table with low/mood lighting. The lighting was nice, but it made it harder to read the menus. The food was tasty and the drinks were fantastic. The service...was a bit slow, though - we saw people who had ordered after us, get their food before us, although the waiter kept assuring us that the food was on the way. To be fair, they were very busy the night we went.More

I brought my family here to celebrate graduation and made a reservation on Open Table. Our plans changed and the host adjusted quickly and easily for us. The food was delicious! Everyone was very happy with their meal. The drinks were wonderful, too. (Dark chocolate...martini: I highly recommend!) We did have one off coffee (basically undrinkable), but they quickly made another, which was very good. We signaled the staff when we needed something and someone always responded within moments. The restaurant is as much of New York: busy, well-worn, and everyone (including the staff) is on-the-go. If you know what you are entering, and we did, you will have a fantastic experience. If you enter expecting a 5 star restaurant with the staff who will wait on you hand and foot, then you will be disappointed. Be advised: the restrooms are small. The one closest to the restaurant itself is in the best condition and with good space. If you have mobility issues, you will likely be most comfortable with this particular restroom.More

I will NEVER eat here again. Service was horrible. Food was horrible. Attentiveness was horrible. Glasses were dirty. Mimosas came to us in a dirty glass that had lipstick on it. Food was cold. Manager never came to speak to me regarding the service level...when I complained. Made reservations for 20 people for 11am. They had no idea what to do with us, did not prepare for our arrival at all. Do not eat here. They get zero reviews from me.More

My sisters and I treated our mother here for Mother’s Day. The food was delicious. I had the Emily’s southern fried chicken, with Mac & cheese and collard greens. I also had a side of bacon and cheddar grits and a slice of carrot cake....We did wait a bit for the food but I assume it was because of the holiday. Would definitely visit this place again and recommend it to anyone looking for soul food in Harlem.More
