This could be the best dinner I ever experienced. Four of us celebrating a special birthday and we all shared so I got to taste a lot of amazing dishes. Appetizers: Tongue, Pork Bellies, Foie Gras, Bison Tartar. All incredible but if I had to...pick the Tongue was the star. All the meats were high quality, nice portions and flavorful but not overpowering seasoning. Perfect! The Main courses: Tournedos Rossini (filet mignon and Foie Gras) The steak done rare as we like it and tasty. Boar chop - son loved it and I did not get a chance to taste that as he finidhed it quickly. I stole a few gnocchi off his plate and that was awesome. Venison mas moist and tender - so good. My dish was off the charts perfection: The rabbit cassoulet. I love rabbit and cassoulet so I had to try this. The portion was generous, like a half of a rabbit and meaty. Moist and tender cooked perfectly. I shared with others and still had plenty. The beans and sauce underneath reminded me of Paris - superb (the meat was done separately so it was not soaked in the sauce, you really tasted the meat which I appreciated) - I can't believe how good everything was at this place - nothing was even just OK. Every dish was standout fantastic. The service was also perfect, the host/server was polite, friendly and informative. The courses came out as they should, everything hot. The bread at the table was fresh and served with a spicy warm oil to dip in and was replaced as we finished them off. We did not have to ask for anything - it just showed up at the right time. Birthday deserts were also superb. Chocolate mousse with fresh cream, Creme brulee with berries done right with the top carmelized, son had ice cream and I'm sure it was good. what a fantastic time out with family and a good friend. This will go down in the books in birthday history. I would highly recommend the restaurant as a splurge /special dinner location. I wish they were open for lunch so I could bring my business customers here.More

Cozy but not cramped, relaxed service that is also personal and professional, food that is off-the-charts tasty but substantial, rustic atmosphere that manages to maintain a kind of low-key elegance – all of this makes eating at Gentleman Farmer about as much fun as you...can have at a restaurant. Tucked away on a nondescript Lower East Side street in digs about the size of a fairly deep clothes closet, the atmosphere encourages – but doesn’t require – you to get to know your neighbours (who in our case were fascinating) and have significant chats about the food with your server, who is quite willing to voice his opinion. And given the special evening guaranteed at this unpretentious little gem, prices are quite reasonable. My daughter saw GM reviewed and insisted we try it during a recent visit. We started with two outstanding appetizers – octopus and seared scallops paired with surprisingly delicate pork liver. For our mains, I had braised rabbit and Melissa went with the Wagyu hanger steak, both delicious. Not usually a dessert fan, I was bowled over by the fabulous chocolate fondue and Melissa’s creamy and delicious crème brûlée, both perfectly complemented by dessert wines suggested by our solicitous waiter. We ended up closing the place down and agreeing it was one of the “nicest” dinners we had enjoyed in a very long time.More

We enjoyed the food, and great ambiance. They have a good wine selection. We didn't order desserts, we felt rushed at the end.

We dined here on a Monday night. Tough neighborhood to get through from Chelsea, but well worth the walk. THE BEST bison tartare I've ever had, coupled with generous portion of scallops, crowned with seared foie gras. Polished it off with a nicely prepared rack...of lamb and a Nero d'avola. Magnificent little hidden gem. Perfectly priced top-notch fare in an intimate setting.More

This is not a review of their food since we were unable to locate this restaurant. We arrived at 40 Rivington Street the address given on their web site, open table and Trip advisor to find that it is a private residence. Talked to owner...who knew nothing about the restaurant. Called the restaurant 2 times at noon( half an hour before our reservation) no one answered just a voicemail and no one bothered to call us back. Waiting for a call back we circled the neighborhood and still could not find the restaurant. Asked at 2 local businesses they could tell us nothing. No callback left the area at 12:30. I guess I should of called their second restaurant. Called today and was told the address is 42 Rivington and that it is very hard to find( no kidding) and there is no sign just the name in the window (which we missed as we circled the block 2 times) and why didn’t we call their number( which we did twice). So good luck finding this one. Hopefully the restaurant will update the address and make the signage a little more visible.More

We have been on holiday for 25 days. Yesterday we had the best dinner ever in US. The Ambiance, the food and the service were just perfect. For a couple of hours you are transferred to a different place where your taste buds just feast...and your mind is chilling. Oscar brings you back in time with his friendly smiling service. Keep it up folks!More

Quick! Go taste this chef cooking before he goes to an upscale place. This is a small restaurant in a not so great neighborhood, but the cooking is excellent . The chef offer a variety of unusual staples like the bison tartare and venison, as...well as boar chops. I had the braised rabbit and the roasted cauliflower both very good. Good wine by the glass and also an extensive list by the bottle. I predict a successful career for this chef.More

Hubby knows I love intimate, quiet restaurants with warm artistic ambiance and great lighting...and he surprised me with this one! I loved it...I Had a delicious meal of short ribs accompanied by a fabulous red wine. Our waiter, (yes an adorable aspiring actor) was delightful....Teeny tiny space is one of my new favorites. Will definitely return next time I’m in New York.More

Experienced Diner The food was good The pricing OK The manager was TERRIBLE and arrogant The space is small but we knew this in advance We were insulted by the manager. He insisted we order appetizers and entrees within 10 minutes after we arrived The...waiters and the manager kept hitting my shoulder ever 5 minutes saying “excuse me”. I have dined at many French restaurants in NYC, France and around the world CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACEMore

The Gentleman Farmer is a small restaurant in the Lower East Side. But, the experience is anything but small. The food was exceptional and only matched by the service. Will definitely be coming back.More
