I had a lovely brunch experience here. While not every dish is a hit out of the park, you get a good amount of food for the price you pay in a snazzy modern restaurant. Pair it with a fun cocktail selection and some dishes that taste as good as it looks, Craft is a wonderful place to celebrate any special occasion. While I wish service was a bit faster, it is a popular restaurant and things can get busier than expected. I really enjoyed the unique cheeses featured in some dishes, as well as their cod. Large portion sizes - you'll get the most bang for your buck and walk out feeling stuffed.

Everything was nearly PERFECT about my family’s experience here. The food was absolutely fantastic. The wait staff attentively ensured all our needs were met, questions answered, and the pace between drinks/ordering/meal courses wasn’t too fast or too slow. They also went the extra mile to customize our experience since we were celebrating a birthday. The only thing for us was that it was a little dark to read the menus for guests with limited eyesight. But we used phones!

This time was a return solo to have their pork chop which is extraordinary! So very deliciously done. I agree the service though friendly could be more polished. I don't need my waiter to tell me three times "enjoy" or drop by to make conversation. The bus service seemed inexperienced and could use direction. Leaving, though I walked by maybe 10 staff members just standing, none said goodbye or thank you except the hostess at the desk as I walked out. The staff could also explain a little about the dishes as they place them on the table. For dessert I had the super delicious souffle which they placed directly in front of me with no plate to take it out of it's pot and eat it, there is a napkin under the hot pot. For Michelin stars, such details are to be thought through.

Big Top Chef fans and really looked forward to eating at Craft. First time.
Arrived at 6:40 for a 7:00 dinner reservation for 2. Table wasn't ready so we had a drink at the bar. Nice ambiance. At 7:15 we still hadn't been seated. Finally seated at 7:20 after asking what was taking so long.
We wanted to order an appetizer right away while perusing the menu, but our waiter said, "No," we needed to order our main dishes at the same time as appetizer so that he could properly time things. I found that a bit strange, but OK, whatever.
We had grilled octopus for appetizer. Main course, I had braised short rib; and my wife had fish (snapper, I think). All the food was very tasty to be sure. But I was a little surprised that the food was not plated. Rather, the food came out in their cooking pans. So I had to use a big spoon to plate my own meat; and my wife had to use a fork to plate her own fish. I guess regulars know this, but with all the emphasis on Top Chef for plating and presentation, I was surprised, and I found it a bit awkward, honestly. Also, vegetables/sides are all a la carte, so while my piece of meat was delicious, it "wasn't a complete dish," as Tom might say on the show.
Again with all the emphasis on Top Chef with composed, balanced dishes, I was looking forward to seeing how Tom put a whole dish together, but that is not the way it's done there.
Wine list had many fine wines; very expensive. A very few choices for under $100; most choices several hundred dollars a bottle.
Note my rating of 3 stars is relative to my expectation. For the price that is charged (over $300 before tip for 2 glasses of wine each, 1 appetizer to share, 2 "entrees" (protein only), no sides, and 1 dessert to share) I was hoping for more.

My son and I were celebrating my birthday, and had high hopes for a fabulous dining experience. The ambience is without a doubt impressive. My son had let them know it was my birthday, and our menus had “Happy Birthday “ printed at the top, a nice touch. The restaurant was less than half full, yet the service was lacking. We were at our table a full 15 minutes before any acknowledgment (water, drink order). Our nice waiter was clearly stretched too thin, and was apologetic. Eventually our drinks came, then a lackluster amuse-bouche of butternut squash appeared. We shared wildly overpriced so-called “Bad Boy” oysters on the half shell, and wonderful grilled octopus as appetizers. Having heard so many accolades for the short ribs, we bit the bullet and ordered this $67 (!!) entree, along with the seared tuna. The tuna was delicious, but the short ribs were embarrassingly poor — chewy, flavorless, and swimming in a greasy broth. So disappointing and surprising for such a fine dining restaurant. Later, when the manager came over, I mentioned the mediocre short ribs. He was quite apologetic, said they weren’t from the restaurant’s usual purveyor (then why serve them?), and immediately removed them from our bill and comped us a round of drinks. A classy move. He also said they were missing some of their service staff. I didn’t have the heart to mention my birthday, so no special treat arrived as promised on the website.

If you think wine is a necessary complement to a fine dinner then you should avoid dining at Craft. Surprisingly for a restaurant that fancies itself first tier, its wine program is second rate. It has an embarrassingly small selection of California wines. Most surprising Craft refuses to post its wine list on the website and instead asks that you e-mail a request for the list to their beverage director. As one who likes to do a bit of research to see what my trusted review sources say about wines, I find this unacceptable. Adding insult to injury the wine list presented in the restaurant has print so tiny I couldn’t read it in the dim light. The waiter treated my request for a flashlight as joke. New York is filled with restaurants serving equally wonderful food and that also provide their wine lists online. And most of them, unlike Craft, have a large and well -chosen selection of California wines

My fiancé and I had dinner at craft in November the week before Thanksgiving. We showed up for our 8:00 p.m. reservation and were informed that they were running about twenty minutes behind - no bid deal. The woman we spoke with asked if we would like to sit at the bar while we waited, which was perfectly fine with us. Cocktails were excellent, which was good for us as we had a very long time to sit with them. We didn’t get seated for dinner until 10:00 p.m. At that point, we had checked with the person we first spoke with multiple times, and we noticed people coming in well after us were being seated. I pointed this out to our original contact, who apologized and offered to take care of our cocktails, which was appreciated. We were seated shortly thereafter. We came in well dressed, were polite, and acted as one expects in a fine dining establishment, so this was rather odd. We never really understood what happened. Anyway, I digress.
Once we were seated, however (at a table another couple had asked to be moved from? Slight wobble - At that point we didn’t care), things improved. Our server was very pleasant. I had the big eye tuna entrée, which was top notch - the olives used in the dish this fall were a perfect balance for the flavor of the fish. My fiancé chose the duck and wouldn’t stop raving about it. The hen of the woods mushrooms were a stellar side dish I would highly recommend. So, all in all, a delicious meal in a lovely location, just much later than we had expected.

Food was great but there were some service missteps that lessened our experience: we were halfway through dessert before our coffee arrived. Also waited close to 20 minutes after finishing dessert, ultimaty asking a busperson to notify our server we would like our check. She was pleasant, though. I hate even mentioning it but it did detract from an otherwise great evening.

Everything about our experience was exceptional. Our table was ready on time, the appetizers were incredible. The oysters were briny and delicious and the server did a great job explaining the menu and helping us order the proper amount of food. The duck was not only cooked perfectly but it was a large portion. We indulged in dessert and they were spectacular - the donuts were a particular hit. Great evening

Here's the thing about Craft: everything is perfect.
The ambiance is delightful with high ceilings, interesting architecture, lovely art, perfect lighting and a reasonable noise level.
The service is top rate- friendly, attentive but not overly so, knowledgeable and helpful.
And then there's the food.
Craft is the kind of place where you know anything you order will be so good it might make you cry. On this visit I brought my foodie college student and his teen sibling. The teen is not quite as adventurous an eater as his older brother, but that kid would have licked every plate if decorum had allowed. He literally spooned the short rib sauce into his mouth once he'd finished the meat. After our last visit I came home determined to eat shishito peppers at every meal. The mushrooms are divine and I honestly could just order those as a meal and leave happy. Everything is creative and delicious and perfectly cooked. Between the three of us we had many of the vegetable plates, a squid pasta dish, the short ribs, sea bass and quail, ice cream and a semifreddo confection, tea and coffee, so we covered most of the menu. Every bite was perfection.
To round things out we had theatre tickets and mentioned this to our server when we sat down. She unobtrusively kept an eye on the time and helped us to order in a way that would allow us to enjoy the meal without feeling rushed and make it to the show without any stress.
In sum, I cannot recommend this restaurant more highly. Even the neighborhood is lovely and if you come you should take a post meal stroll around Gramercy Park, especially the beautiful historic block of E 19th between Irving + 3rd.

Huge fans of Chef Tom Colicchio and avid watchers of Top Chef. What a dream it was to dine here! We traveled from NC to NY for my 30th birthday and this was my top choice in places to dine.
From the time we stepped foot in Craft the service and attention to detail was impeccable and so appreciated. The food and drinks were exquisite and out of all the thousands of people who dine here, I was made to feel so special.
The cherry on top was being gifted a signed copy of the Craft cookbook by our server and management. This was an experience I will cherish for a long time to come. If I ever have a chance to go back, I will not pass it up.

We enjoyed a special meal in the Private Dining Room down a couple of steps from the main restaurant. Our meal was as always extraordinary. Our server Cesar was lovely. The Sommelier Brooks paired some lovely wines with the tasting menu. All of the dishes were perfect.

With high expectations of this exclusive New York talking point, I booked ahead with the hope of a very special experience. With a 7.30pm reservation, I was 'disappointed' that the ribs I had come for were already sold out. The manager John Gargano came to explain the current supply challenges facing NY restaurants. He re-assured me that any other choice on the menu would delight. With a huge smile, 20 minutes later John brought me a plate of the ribs that he'd managed to procure. I was speechless. Needless to say the ribs were heavenly, but more importantly John and his team had turned my 'disappointment' into delight. Craft is a 'must' for any visit to New York.

The meal I’ve ever had. Never thought I’d be able to actually make that call, but I’ve been mulling on it for just over a week, and it simply was. I can’t think of another time when my taste buds have enjoyed themselves so much.
6 of us visited and simply the wine, started and mains that we tried were simply amazing. I think I tried everyone’s starter and certainly tried everyones main.
We had Oysters, Beet risotto, short rib, venison, lamb and (OMG) wild bolognese! That’s just the food I can remember!
Next time I go, I really want to try the $6400 wine but I’ll need to win the lottery first...
I very much hope this place comes to London soon!
Well done guys! I don’t say it lightly. James

What an incredible night. Excellent drink choices (alcoholic and nonalcoholic), delicious starter (grilled octopus), mouth watering entrees (quail and duck) and sides (sauteed greens and gnochi) and the best dessert one could ask for (toasted marshmallow cake). Went for a birthday celebration and the staff was more than welcoming and made us feel like we were VIP. Highly recommend.

Flatiron District
Offering many of the city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets - much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighborhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being home to a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.
