My spouse and I visited the Houndstooth Pub for lunch on a Saturday afternoon in mid-February 2020. The Houndstooth Pub is open daily for lunch, dinner, drinks, in-between, and late night. We were a little confused about its weekend opening time, since the decorative sign...hanging on the corner of the building seemed to indicate that it opened daily at 11:00 am, when in fact, on weekends, it does not open until 12:00 noon. We arrived as walk-ins; however, the establishment accepts bookings using the online RESY reservation system. (The main room of the restaurant/bar was fully occupied on the afternoon that we dined.) The Houndstooth Pub opened in October 2008 at the corner of 8th Avenue and West 37th Street in the Midtown South/Garment District. It is located on the street level of a block of buildings that contains other restaurants and shops. Houndstooth offers several places to dine. The main dining room is located on the street level and benefits from many windows that provide light for the marble-topped horseshoe-shaped bar, adjacent high-top larger tables, or at regular-height smaller tables positioned on a platform just a step up from the main floor. Two other dining rooms (one below ground) offer two additional bars as well as overflow seating. Tile floors, wrought-iron railings, modern chandelier lighting, high ceilings, and lots of wood complete the décor. The Houndstooth Pub offers upscale British and American pub cuisine. We shared the “English jackets” as an appetizer (potato skins topped with slightly spicy chili, cheese, and sour cream) followed by the fish and chips (two rather small pieces of battered fish accompanied by fries and tartar sauce) and the burger (topped with a choice of cheese [gorgonzola], lettuce, tomato, and pickles and served with either fries or side salad [we chose fries]). We enjoyed our lunch at the Houndstooth Pub.More

Nothing special but it’s a decent enough place for couple of early evening drinks. Standard NYC prices

Join a good pub instead of that! You have to pay 20% of Tip - thats ok but not for a bad service! We had one burger and one sandwich! The food was cold and very very small! A man will start hungry from the...table away! The salad was not fresh! All in all - mcdonalds is better then that and cheaper! Very sorry because the ambient is really nice!More

Can you email info@houndstoothpub.com please. And tell us when you were her. As you can see from our reviews this is far from normal.

Enjoyed a very nice early-evening dinner with friends here. The wait staff were very accommodating for our very mixed group of old friends, new friends, and children. The menu had something for everybody and the meal that we had (Sheppard's Pie and French Onion soup)...was right on the spot. Nice bar with good selection of beers and wines.More

We visited on one of the most popular days of the year for eating out, but the service was pretty quick and professional. The food was all prepared well, although I think the salmon was a little overcooked for “medium” — I would suggest asking...for “medium rare” if you are looking for a noise center to your fish. The starters were very rich and flavourful. The entrees were more balanced, and the sides matched the meats nicely. We reserved for the “dinner room”, but it looks like the place is open-plan along with the bar, so it might not be as quiet for conversation as you might think, but it wasn’t overly loud either.More

We had an early dinner there. The food was very good, was served hot and our server was friendly and helpful. It was noisy but in a nice way - lots of chatter and laughter. More like a sports bar than a pub but that's...not a criticism. We can go to a pub any day in the UK.More

Saturday early dinner. Even at 5:30 the place was busy but we were seated right away. Service was great, food was awesome. Nice diverse menu but not too vast that you have a hard time choosing. The meatloaf, chicken pot pie, Granny Smith apple salad,...house salad and French onion soup were all amazing. We would go back!More

This is a fantastic corner pub on 8th Avenue. The food was fresh and hot, a great selection and something for everyone. Fantastic cocktails and I highly recommend the French 75. The staff are very friendly.
