We have been to many Indian buffets in New York (alas, Sapphire is gone), and Darbar Grill is one of the best for the price ($15.95). There is a nice array of dishes from goat curry to vegetable samosas to makhanis, with nothing unusual. But...the saag paneer, dhal, and tandoori chicken are particularly well prepared. The desserts—mango mousse (a bit thick), rice pudding, flan, and gulab jaman (milk balls in syrup)—were three more than usual in a buffet. The room is more reminiscent of an English pub, dark paneling and stained glass skylight, but pleasant. The service was excellent.More

So my wife and I took a vow yesterday. Never to visit Indian restaurants in NYC. Why? Because most of them offer all you can eat buffets ranging from low $15 to mid $20. They all have the same menu, same flavours, same colours, same...tardy service and lots of dishes. What can you expect in a Manhattan for $20ish where the rents are astronomical and most of the revenue goes towards supporting the real estate. I have a suggestion for Darbar Grille and the like. Offer a very limited menu freshly made food, pre-served on a platter with one main and two sides. Offer only 4 choices of main and standard sides. Keep the same price or even up it a bit but offer fresh food and top quality ingredients. Get trained waiters who do not keep on serving water. Water is filling and cuts down on revenue. Most waiters in Indian restaurants never ask customer for a drink. In fact that’s where restaurants make money on beverages and not on food. That’s it I am done with Indian restaurants excepting Tamarind, Junoon and ADDA. I highly recommend ADDA for great food and excellent value.More

This place has a wonderful Indian lunch buffet for only $15.95 a person. All of our dishes were great. It is well worth the money for the quality and variety of dishes. The ambiance is great too with dark wood paneling and white tablecloths. The...service was quiet and attentive and our water glasses were constantly refilled (always a good indicator of service). Much better than its sister restauant on East 46th Street.More

We had a meal here on impulse and it was great, chicken korma was delicious and lamb tandoori very tasty. We had garlic naans to accompany plus rice. The mango mousse for dessert is also very good. Nice cocktails from the bar and good choice...of beers and wines, service was very attentive. A great way to end our trip to NYCMore

Visiting cousins and they picked this place for dinner. Great service and super delicious food! I loved my tandoori chicken. I would have eaten two dishes of it. My cousin got a tamarind margarita and I would have drunk a whole pitcher of that. This...place is great.More

Out of five nights in NYC, we chose to eat dinner at the Darbar Grill three times. We enjoy Indian food, and we found Darbar Grill's food among the best we have experienced. The interior is pleasant and the service was attentive. Highly recommended!

Went to the Darbar yesterday as I’m a fan of Indian food! Excellent! Tasty food, with the exact spiciness. Served in a very professional way. Try the Shiraz from India, great to match the spicy food!
