This restaurant has been in the neighborhood for years now and frankly the only reason for going here was the loss of AGRA nearby on Lexington Avenue, a victim of Covid.
Here there are table cloths, attentive, friendly service and we experienced possibly the freshest Vegetable Somosas ever served in NYC. Sadly while the two chicken dishes were fresh the portions were small, more suited to a less expensive lunch option than a dinner in the evening.
We may return with friends one day to see if the portions are indeed as small as we experienced.

Darbar catered my wedding and let me just say - they provided the best experience I could have ever had. From the beginning, Manek was so accommodating and kind. Even when we had an unexpected wedding date change! The food was insanely delicious - my husband is from Brazil and his family fell in love with Indian food because of Darbar. There are no hidden fees and only transparency. Weddings can be really expensive in NYC, but Darbar provided an extremely reasonable price for catering - I was so grateful for this. Manek also is with you through every step to make sure your wedding day is perfect. Anyone having an Indian wedding in the NYC area must definitely go with Darbar. Unmatched service, kindness, efficiency, and price.

Danbar Grill offers fantastic naan with a thin, perfectly burnt crust and a great selection of flavors. The amazing dishes are adjusted to personal preferences, and the service is attentive without being intrusive. The drink selection is excellent, with a range of beverages from traditional Indian drinks to expertly crafted cocktails. Despite the hot climate outside, the restaurant maintains a comfortable temperature. Overall, Danbar Grill provides a memorable dining experience with high-quality food, attentive service, and great value for money. Highly recommended for authentic Indian cuisine in NYC!

We went with friends on the basis of a taxi driver’s recommendation. We found the interior gloomy and somewhat soulless. One girl, very shy, tried to serve us, but the men out front, in white shirts, were offhand and inattentive. The food was a complete disappointment. Onion bhajia were fried to death, tasteless and burnt. The main and indistinguishable vegetarian dishes lacked any subtlety of spicing and seemed to be wearing the same thickened sauce. The peas in the matter paneer were like bullets, and the makhani was laden with chilli. The least expensive wine on the list was over $50 a bottle. The bill for four came to well over £200 or $150. Compared to the quality of the best London “Indian”restaurants with accomplished Bangladeshi cuisine, this meal was a disaster. And they didn’t want to know…..

We have been to many Indian buffets in New York (alas, Sapphire is gone), and Darbar Grill is one of the best for the price ($15.95). There is a nice array of dishes from goat curry to vegetable samosas to makhanis, with nothing unusual. But the saag paneer, dhal, and tandoori chicken are particularly well prepared. The desserts—mango mousse (a bit thick), rice pudding, flan, and gulab jaman (milk balls in syrup)—were three more than usual in a buffet.
The room is more reminiscent of an English pub, dark paneling and stained glass skylight, but pleasant. The service was excellent.

I wish I could give these guys ten stars! Food was great but hospitality like I haven’t seen in years. Brought a toddler with us and every single staff person there made us feel like family. Will definitely be back!

If you’re looking for authentic and fresh Indian food this is the place for you!!! The tamarind Margarita was so delicious!!! The venue and chicken samosas are some of the best I’ve ever tasted! I got the butter chicken and the rice OMG the tandoori chicken was also moist and flavorful!!! I had the mango custard dessert and I was so stuffed leaving the restaurant. I wish I lived in NY do I can have they food more regularly. But the naan was the show stopper for me!!! I have been dreaming about it ever since!!! I can’t wait to go back again!!!

Great Indian food. Super friendly staff. Reasonably priced. Really loved the samosas and black Dahl. And they take reservations which is always helpful in New York!
