After being delighted by another visit to Moma what best to complement it with a stop by the Modern Bar. Hard to think of a better schedule than this. The cuisine is as robust as the main restaurant proposition and the bar atmosphere makes it simple and informal. However do not get wrong the food is delicious.

Had dinner in The Modern - Bar Room with friends. Staff was very nice and attentive. Ambience was great and the food was absolutely delicious. By far the best restaurant I've ever eaten. Lobster ravioli was amazing and really well balanced. I can also recommend the key lime sundae (with tequila pearls!). Worth every penny.

This is my third visit to The Bar Room at the Modern and I cannot even begin to explain the phenomenal meal, the wonderful atmosphere, and truly, fantastic service. The food is impeccable. Every taste, every flavor shines and not only does it taste delicious, but it is a treat for the eyes as well. The service is lovely, friendly,... More

My son and I met in NYC for his birthday and had tickets to a Broadway show on Saturday night. I was looking for a nice casual place with good food for a pre-show meal and found just what I wanted at The Bar Room of the Modern. It is a lovely room with a nice long bar and a... More

After my daughter finished sleep away camp, I booked a few extra days in the city as a pre birthday gift and celebrating her upcoming senior year. We got a late start and by the time we got to MoMA we were starving. We found The Modern by accident. I felt out of place being surrounded by all the dark... More

When we want to be fairly sure that we'll get the right balance of relaxed attentive service, lovely setting, and scrumptious eats we tend towards a Union Square Hospitality restaurant, and this is one of them. In fact, we have been to both The Modern Bar Room and the more formal The Modern Dining Room in the past and have... More

The bar area of The Modern serves a la carte dishes - from snacks to mains. For our lunch we shared four snacks - smoked salmon sliders, crab fritters, tarte flambee ( a really substantial snack), and foie gras bites (wrapped in peanuts!). All were unusual and excellent. Two wines were $14 a glass for a total bill of $102.... More

I love everything I've had to eat here every time I've come, but I still get indigestion from the small size of the portions and the prices. If I had more money I'd dine here all the time. It is a pretty elegant space with access from outside the museum so you don't have to pay the MOMA admission to... More

Outstanding place for drinks and bite after work. Service could not be more attentive. Drinks were good. We shared a few appetizers. Scallop and fried chicken entrees outstanding. Was a great choice to meet out of town friends.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
