Imagine an Indian restaurant that serves grilled vegetables that taste like curried Indian food but isn't the consistency of pablum. YES! Basera serves wonderful grilled and curried vegetables that crunch in your mouth. It's a comfortable restaurant. If you're touring, this is what 9th Ave Hell's Kitchen dining is all about. Portion sizes are jumbo. Prices are reasonable. The shrimp... More

I've eaten here a number of times on business trips over the last few years. I've never been disappointed with the food or service. Dishes are a good size and the food is tasty. They will ask you how spicey you like your food too! I like it hot. A treat. The decor is nothing special. The food is and... More

Glad we arrived before 7 to capture the value of their $5 wines and half priced mixed drinks. But the food was mediocre and service was worse. They were in such a hurry to turn tables (although half the place was empty) that they gave us the bill before we could order dessert and Indian tea. They took the bill... More

Went here for family meal. Food tasted pre cooked didn't taste fresh at all. The rice tasted like uncle bens boil in bag the starters tasted like they were microwaved and so dry. I really wanted to cancel my main course but I thought I'd give it a chance. Well what a disappointment out of 14 meals only 3 of... More

Great spot on 9th avenue. Dark ambience, had a terrific chana massala. Attentive service. Not a posh place, but groovy cozy cool.

Just wonderful! Great tasting Indian food served quickly in a warm, clean, inviting space. Wife said the bathrooms were super clean. (And she has high public restroom standards). Reasonable prices for a relaxing lunch.

Basera is a comfortable venue with friendly service. The restaurant is clean and sets the mood with traditional Indian music. A bit bizarre that they seated the few people in the restaurant on top of each other, but the food overshadowed that faux pas. The food was served hot and fresh. Loved the chicken vindaloo and cauliflower/potato dishes. Spicy hot... More

I was debating several places to have dinner but I had a yen for Indian food so I stopped in at Basera's-I was seated immediately and given a menu-it is a moderate sized space and shortly after arriving, it began to fill up for dinner. Their menu is set up so you choose the type of food preparation you would... More

Most of the Indian restaurants in Midtown have buffets, but Basera does not. The biggest problem is making a choice. There are about 15 vegetarian choices and about four times as many non- vegetarian. All choices are available spicy, medium, or mild. Lunch entrees are served with rice and naan. The second problem is finishing the food. It is absolutely... More

Very polite, welcoming and friendly service. Samosas, lamb, and chicken were all excellent and generous portions. Great find. Will definitely be back.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
