The menu was interesting and the food was very tasty. Recommend the ostrich as well as their Braai burger sliders. The seating area can be a bit tight but then that can be the case with many NY restaurants. But the atmosphere is pleasant and its great to try different foods from around the world without having to travel so... More

This is about as bad as it gets. A pseudo Saffer restaurant that perpetuates the most insulting fraud on South African cuisine. For one, there is not a South African in sight. Two, and the food has only a remote resemblance to its South African roots. And three our selection of Bobotie from the menu was greeted with an embarrassed... More

Try the South African wine and the "local" South African starters as a kind of shareable. I would have given a 5 but the service was average and with very little interaction. The octopus and ostrich sliders are good.

Braai was highly recommended to us by family members and it lived up to expectations. It's a small, tastefully decorated restaurant that features South African food and wines. My husband and I both had the special grilled ostrich recommended by our waiter. He told us that ostrich tastes just like filet mignon which was a very accurate description. It was... More

We had an early reservation after seeing an amazing Broadway show. We were hungry and ready to explore a new restaurant in the Theatre District. I chose this because I never have had South African Food before. We have had Ethiopian Food but this was going to be interesting!! The restaurant was very quiet when we arrived (5:30pm) and it... I went to South Africa in 2010 and had been craving authentic cuisine ever since....so I was very excited to see there was a South African place so close to the hotel. We had a delicious meal and a bottle of wine for just over $100. The ambiance was nice too. Would come back again.

My wife and I were invited to this Hell's Kitchen restaurant. We sat down and this lady sitting alone mentioned how she only comes for the lamb. I wasn't sure on lamb and ordered chicken. My wife ordered baby back ribs. Both were excellent! For dessert we had NY cheesecake. It was very good as well. They even had ostrich... More

Was expecting a bit more "South Africa" in this place. Menu a bit on the "lean" side but what we ordered was tasty. Wine overpriced: a bottle of $20 wine (in SA) will cost you $98 here. Other than a lonely South African flag stuck on the wall at the back of the restaurant, nothing to represent a South African... More

This place is amazing and reasonably priced! Visiting NYC for husband's bday and we happened upon this gem. Would definitely go back! Four of us split the 5 tapas for $42 before a theater show and it was the perfect amount. The ostrich sliders, grilled lamp chop and truffle mac n cheese were all delish! I also loved the quaint... We came here for a quick pre-theatre meal on a Friday, it was not busy at all and the service was very quick. The interior of the restaurant is simple and somewhat romantic, with white-washed walls, candles and wooden tables. Among the two of us we shared the tapas special (5 tapas for $42) and a side which was plenty... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
