We had a really nice meal. The drink menu was unique and thoughtful. One of us got the Pimms Ginger beer cocktail. I got a nice IPA draft. We started with the bacon peanut brittle and the pretzels. Would definitively recommend the pretzels. We then shared the Low country shrimp which was out of this world good. We had to... More

The Redhead !!!! - This place can get very busy on Friday and sat, So if you are intending on dropping in these days be forewarned. At first just a bar and gradually food service added later, chef owner Meg Grace has done a remarkable task. We of course came here for their chicken and were not disappointed. The Redhead... More

We had a late dinner, and I'd seen good reviews of redhead (and I wanted my girlfriend to try fried chicken for the first time ever!) I think we ended up here after 10, and were quickly sat at a table for 2. She had the friend chicken, I had the shrimp and grits. Both dishes were really tasty, washed... More

I had the shrimp & sausage dish. My other half had the chicken (be sure to add the home-made hot sauce). Both were delicious. We had a peanut butter and bacon dessert which works very well. The barman's music was great also. Every single song was perfect. Loud enough to add to the atmosphere, but not too loud to prevent... More

While the place serves food I enjoyed sitting at a bar for a drink or two. People with me raved about the chicken meals!

This is a small restaurant/bar with good food. Positives are very good chicken, escarole, and salad. Everyone we were with enjoyed their food. Very good fish dishes as well and reasonable. The negative is it is tight quarters to eat in and very loud. Not expensive and if the noise level doesn't bother you by all means try it if... More

Small place but good food. Had the pretzels with beer cheese that were featured on diners, dives and drive thru's first and then the fried chicken. The beer cheese was excellent - pretzels warm and fresh! It was crowded but they did not rush us which is such a plus!

With a rating of 4-1/2 bullets (as seen above) from the diners voting on TripAdvisor, I was expecting a super-flavorful buttermilk fried chicken. When I tried it, I thought that there was no noticeable flavor or enhancement from the buttermilk. I got what I consider an ordinary fried chicken dish, no more moist than a fast food fried chicken. Along... More

Normally I expect to have some kind of potatoes and or greens served along side my fried chicken. The fried chicken and Redhead, #1 doesn't need anything to go along with it, and #2 comes with a slice of watermelon topped with pickled onion that proved to be the perfect accompaniment to the perfectly battered and fried chicken. I did... More

Staying in East Village

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
