Hop Lee (21 Mott Street) from 1973 is across the street from Hop Kee (16 Mott Street) which dates to 1968. I called in my order of shrimp with walnut sauce & beef chow fun for pick up. Both dishes delicious !

Best original chinese food I have had for a long time. Very authentic. Love it. We found this place through friends who live in NY and I‘m grateful for that recommendation.

None of the dishes we had looked pretty, yet every single one was delicious to the max! Definitely try the razor clams and lobster, they were fresh and delicious. They have a dinner menu with items for $9.95, you can only order three but they are all yum - we had the yellow chicken, which was great. For vegetarians they are happy to make many dishes vegetarian. Service is friendly, the waiters are happy to patiently answer your questions. The food comes out super fast, a blessing. The restaurant is cash only.

Not very nice at all. A couple of our party had Scheuzan chicken and beef. It was tasteless. Kids had vegetable pancakes and they were not cooked in the centre. On another note if you use the bathroom before you order I think you would leave. They could sorely do with a good clean with ingrained dirt round the light switches etc. you can do so much better than this

Been going to this place for years. And for the first time, we were disappointed. The clams with black bean sauce lacked flavor. The lobster cantonese style was unpleasing to look at - like someone dropped scrambled eggs over the lobster - very little sauce. The shrimp with lobster sauce had to much corn starch in the sauce so it congealed. Also - they now only take cash - they should tell you clearly before you start ordering. The snow pea leaves were delicious. But all in all - it's just not what it used to be and after many many years of going here, it's time to find a new place.

Fabulous True Cantonese Cuisine. The Lobster was divine. The flavors so incredible, but not for the cowardly eaters. You must pick up every piece and suck all the juices out. What fun! You must get the Roast Duck! OMG- it’s my absolute favorite thing to eat when I come to New York. Get out of your comfort zone and go downtown for dinner. Couple of notes- Only beer served, they let me bring wine. I asked the waiter to bring true Cantonese cuisine to the table- I didn’t want the Americanized fried stuff you get at your local suburban Chinese restaurant. For the most he did, but he still brought the fried stuff( which worked out for the most part cause not all my crew is as eclectic an eater as me- PS it’s almost Chines New Year- I gave the waiter a bottle of Cognac and coincidentally our table was great!!!!

Fried rice was amazing. My pickiest kid liked it. Portions are huge. They are very kid friendly. They sent each of my kids out with 4 fortune cookies each. They also take credit card which is rare in Chinatown.

Delicious place, simply delicious. Be careful the serving are HUGE. Great choice of Chinese, great quality, nice atmosphere. We were silly enough to order one dish for everyone and an appetizer. Big mistake. Came nowhere near to finishing it. Personally I had beef pan fried noodle (about $14), I’m sure it was enough for two full meals. Lunch in this place was our friend’s recommendation and I’m definitely ready to recommend it to anyone in my turn.

Went weekday lunch. Not crowded because down the block form more touristy restaurants on Mott near Canal St. Downstairs was nice but nothing special. Food was good but not great. Service and prices very good - portions large.

It was slow so only the downstairs was open. It was quite hot inside, which took some adjustment.
The décor is reminiscent of a diner (Similar furniture and it’s very brightly lit), so there’s not a ton of ambiance (the staff was prepping food at the next table).
Our servers were very attentive (English was a little rough, but we plowed through). There were not many drink options, and only two types of beer, but it sufficed.
They had an extensive menu. We ate the Crispy Chicken and Shrimp Fried Rice; both were excellent. My friend did not enjoy her egg rolls, but otherwise we stuffed ourselves.
We would eat here again.

Tight seating and less than clean bathroom (it was the end of the night) but the food was DELICIOUS. We had the dim sum, chicken chow main and beef with broccoli. The portions can definitely be shared. Everything was fresh and delicious. And we loved the hot tea on the table that is included. I'm so glad we passed all the other restaurants and ate here. (And you know it's good when you see a party of 20 Chinese people leaving just as you are sitting down. )

My wife and I were here with family for a late lunch banquet, with reservations set about 2 weeks ago.
We had about 20 people on 2 tables.
Service was excellent, as was the food.
I am always reluctant to rate Excellent, but this restaurant was.

The hype is wrong..I don’t usually say this about anywhere....just don’t bother it’s average and only memorable because the ratings from others were so good and my experience poor.
