This is a small dumpling house in the East Village between Avenue A and 1st Avenue. It specializes in a whole variety ( pork, beef, soup, and veggie) of dumplings to go or to eat in. Great for a quick lunch, on the go, or a snack. Cheap eats. Guests can always order frozen dumplings to take home. It is a cash only place.
For rock n roll fans, the building that houses Dumpling Man is legendary in rock n roll history. The Rolling Stones shot the "Waiting for a Friend" music video in front of the building. Led Zeppelin's "Physical Graffiti" album cover was shot next door. This was in the the 1970s and early 80s when the East Village was the mecca for the fashion, art, music, and outsider worlds. Sex, drugs, and music were wild and free.

Loved this place in the East Village! Well worth a visit for a quick bite, especially if you’re having a few drinks in the area. I had soup dumplings and my friend had fried veggie gyoza - both perfect. Only thing missing was white wine on the menu, but they had red, so I could live with it.

Was looking just for soup dumplings and this place was great! Menu is just dumplings, we got soup dumplings and vegetable dumplings. Best part is you get to watch the ladies making them through the glass so it was awesome for my son to watch. It’s very small inside with just some counter seats. Recommend if you are looking to grab some dumplings on the go!!

As someone lived in Beijing and half Chinese, I was expecting something pretty good in a street food style. Def catered for those who want something pre or post drinking. Dumplings were below average VERY thick skins and the texture of the veggie ones were def no very Chinese. Also didn't see any vinegar for those who are accustomed to that.
I wouldn't go back unless I was in urgent need of a stomach filler.

The Dumpling Man has reinvented the dumpling! The dumpling wrappers are so tender and each of the different fillings are full of incredible flavor. My favorites are the vegetarian (with tofu & shiitake mushroom) and shrimp, but I also love the chicken and pork too. All of the three dipping sauces, are tasty. You can choose between having them steamed or seared. While waiting for your order, it is fun to watch the cooks preparing the dumplings from behind the glass.

By NYC standards Dumpling Man has been around forever. They have a great menu with many options, seasonal offerings and several ways to customize via extra sauces / toppings. There's only bar seating and not much of it so not great for groups or fancy dates but it's a great place to stop in with a friend or two. Also worth noting they have a see-through partition behind the counter and you can watch the staff prep the dumplings. Pretty cool! Disappointing they now have a minimum order of six per dumpling, so you can't mix and match like you used to be able to but still a great, inexpensive option if you're in the East Village / St. Marks area.

Do not be scared by the shabby ex- and interior. The dumplings are freshly prepared and delicious. Simple, tasty and not expensive. (About 10$ a person for dumplings and a beer)

The most delicious dumpling I tried in NY. The vegetarian option is amazing - the one who made me go there a few times! The place is lovely and you can see how the dumplings are made - in a traditional way! Also, the prize is great and well served!

Dumpling Man serves dumplings, soups and salad, don't go in expecting anything fancy. There are about 6 different dumpling fillings any given day, along with the soup dumpling with pork filling and chicken soup inside. Delicious. The prices are 6 pieces from $5-$7 or 10 pieces from $9-$11. You can sit at the counter and watch the dumplings being made while sipping on an ice tea or bubble tea. There are several dipping sauces you can purchase for the dumplings. They also offer two dessert dumplings: banana or pumpkin and appetizers of edamame, cold noodles or a green salad, along with 3 types of soup, all for under $5 each. On the day I went, we also had a pork belly dim sum special, which I did not like. But the star is the dumpling. My preference is the chicken or pork. You can also try a sampler, which is one of each. The place is small (only about 3 tables and counter) and the service is friendly. Great place for authentic, inexpensive Northern Asian dumplings. They are open 7 days/week from 11:30am-11:30pm and to 12:30am on Fri & Sat. They also offer their dumplings frozen for purchase to take home.

East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
