Nirvana for lovers of fine rums, plus it oozes character. I need more words for their minimum review length, but am at a loss for words after every visit.

My spouse and I had drinks at The Rum House on a Friday afternoon for Happy Hour in late May 2016. (Their weekday Happy Hour is quite generous, running from 12:00 noon to 6:00 pm.) The Rum House is located on West 47th Street (between Broadway and 8th Avenue) in Times Square/Theater District; it is the bar for the Edison... More

I husband and I visited New York City for our anniversary and we were not disappointed at The Rum House!! The drinks were great and the music was absolutely phenomenal! A small cozy bar right in the middle of times Square. Fun atmosphere great crowd that night.

We called in here for a couple of drinks (we didnt want to eat) and had a good time. Two ladies took turns to sing jazz classics with a great band in tow. Good atmosphere and good waitress service.

This establishment is attempting to hark back to a more sophisticated era of jazz music, cocktails and chat which is perhaps not so easy to find in raucous modern day New York. Small, dimly lit and cosy it did have a different atmosphere to the ubiquitous sports bars with their wall to wall TVs. Catch the live bands and you're... More

Since the Rum House has changed hands it's really gone way down in my estimation. Its way too noisy for such a small place - you can't hear the person next to you! The bartenders are OK but the bartender that was there in the "old" Rum House was a very nice personable individual. My family and I used to... More

We wanted to listen to some live jazz music. This place advertised. A gentleman was playing a piano in this small dimly, but romantic setting. Loved the seeing but intimate as in small but a good way. Bartender wad not very friendly although door man /security was! My husband got a drink and I was not feeling up to drinking... More

Great live music, incredible selection of rum! The drinks we had were pretty stout, so pay attention to what you are ordering. The band was sensational.

Super cool after-dinner/theater spot with quite possibly the best variety of rum cocktails anywhere. Classic and cozy colonial style interior and live bands most nights, but not too loud, so you can still carry on a conversation. The daiquiris are otherworldly, and for a fresh palate cleanser try the Old Cuban.

I'm sorry but this place deserve a 5 star, and I don't give out many 5 stars. Great atmosphere, great workers and best of all great live music not a Dj. The place was hopping tonight and people of all ages enjoying the music so nice to see. I was here on vacation and lucky enough to find this gem.... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
