Had a most enjoyable lunch, the tables are a bit too close for any kind of a private conversation, but excellent for getting to know new people. Staff friendly and know what they are talking about. Were not sure of a wine choice, so they let us taste the ones that we were asking about which we appreciated and choose... More

After a stroll in Central Park, we wandered over to the Upper East Side, looking for a late, quiet lunch. We glanced down the side street from Madison Ave and saw the sign. What a delightful find! Food-amazing; service-amazing! Thank-you, Andreas! We hope to be back one day.

We had dinner here and although my meal was fine one of our group's was just mediocre and the other was a disaster. She ordered the duck, medium, and it came very overdone. We sent it back and it came back nearly raw. All I could think of was the old Fawlty Tower's episode where nothing went right and in... More

Used to live in Manhattan and walked by the Chat Noir hundreds of times on the way to Central Park with my daughter. Came to town and went for brunch. We had fabulous service from Alan (?). He was fantastic, witty, there when he needed to be. We had a wonderful meal...Cucumber manhattans, the appetizer tasting teasers were the highlight... More

There are few times you continue to come back to restaurants in NYC but let me tell you that if you haven't been or if you haven't returned to Chat Noir you are MISSING OUT!!! Joanna, Edison, David, and Hassan will make sure you are treated like you are your own "island!" The service is BEYOND 5 STAR! If you... More

We ate part of the daily menu. Pea soup and chicken breast with avocado and basil. Both dishes were excellent. Also, Black Cat burger was thrilling! For desert we ate chocolate mousse and apple pie with vanilla ice cream. They surprised us with another dessert. Although the food was excellent, we were impressed by friendly staff especially Andreas. We highly... More

We stopped in for a light lunch after going to museums. My husband had the french onion soup, I ate the warm artichoke salad. Both were excellent. Best capuccino I've had in a long time, and my husband enjoyed his cote du rhone. We certainly would return.

We came across the Bistro by chance and loved it. I had the duck dish which was beautiful well sliced duck pieces in a lovely brown sauce with carrot mash. She had the lobster salad with quinoa, walnuts cucumber with a mild curry dressing. The staff were efficient and discrete. What a great lunch on a rainy day in New... More

This place was horrible. 1st and last time. Xmas meal price was $270 for 2 people for really average crappy food. Waited endlessly to get our entree, and the appetizer and entree were very average not good at all. Dessert was NOT good. For $270 I expect something special. I've eaten MUCH better food for a quarter of the price.... More

Was skeptical to book this restaurant based on other reviews on open table/TripAdvisor. When I called for reservations and to inquire about the pre-fix menu; I was assured kids would eat half price. I went ahead a book based on location the the church service we were attending. Meal was mediocre at best, service was between good and great. It... More

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighborhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighborhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
