This is a small, unassuming place for good Mexican food! Don't bring your checkbook...(who writes checks any more?) because the sign on the door says. "No checks, please". Kidding aside, we started with the usual tortilla chips and salsa which had a real kick to it. It's the kind of salsa that "tickles" the back of your throat...not for wimps.... More

More like #3, to me. Service was slow, table was sticky and food was so-so. Asado was full of fat, but the chunks of actual pork was pretty good. Sauce was not very spicy. Nachos chips were stuck together with cheese. Had been twice and both times I was not impressed. Also, just for info, the hours have changed. Only... More

We were hungry after touring Carlsbad Caverns and wanted a bit of authentic Mexican cuisine. Found Roja's on the GPS and were not disappointed. The complimentary tortilla chips were fresh and crispy but the salsa a bit hot for our bland yankee taste buds. The waitress kindly showed me how to fold the tortilla to hold all of the delicious,... service excellent. A bit noisy. Food was good . Not expensive. My next time in Carlsbad I will search again. I have never been in a city where it was this hard to find a restaurant I liked.

I read other reviews and I wish I listened to them. Let me preface this by saying my family cooks Mexican food. Mexican food is basic, simple food that is tasty and can even be healthy and nutritious if done well. This food was tasteless and greasy. I had a simple taco plate and my other family members had the... More

Let me preface this by saying I love Mexican food-could eat it for every meal, but this was the absolute worst Mexican I have ever had. I had the soft shell chicken tacos. The first bite I took I had oil dripping down my chin. I had to squeeze all of the oil out of the tacos. Then there's the... More

A resident of Carlsbad took us here for lunch. Don't be put off by the appearance. It looks like a dive but has some of the best Mexican food around. If you want real authentic Mexican food it doesn't get any better than this.

We were traveling from the Seattle WA area to visit the Carlsbad Cavererns Natonal park.. Number one on our eating list was Sopapillas.. We can't find them on the west coast.. We called the local mexican restaurants from our best western Hotel to find who was serving them.. We decided on Rojas due the positive response from the person on... More

We were looking for donuts, and luckily they were closed because we found this great place! Excellent food, great service and great prices.
