An owner operated deli in historic downtown Manteo. Great deli style sandwiches on baked to order rolls. Fresh cut salads, homemade dressings, house made side dishes and soups. Ice cream and desserts available also. Eat in or takeout. Outside seating is available, pets welcome there.

I visited mid-afternoon on a weekday with a large group of family (9 people) including kids age 1-13.. You order at the counter and then seat yourself in another area. Inside seating is limited, and with two other families there it was about 60% full. Everyone was very happy with their sandwiches. This is a nice place to get quick, good food for hungry kids after visiting the festival park.

Convenient location in Manteo village. I got a cold sandwich piled high with turkey, lettuce, and tomato. My husband had the grilled Angry Bird sandwich--I think it's chicken with some kind of spicy flavoring. One of the staff said it was their most popular sandwich. Both came with chips. We also had a couple of cookies for dessert. They were out of this world delicious! Ample seating inside and out. Would definitely go back.

We went back for a third visit. Things were a little different due to the pandemic. Lots of take out orders lined up. Masks. No dining in. Pretty much what we expected. He got a turkey gouda club which he said was super delish. They didn’t have my usual cheesy apple sandwich on the menu any more -sad- But I got a tasty double grilled cheese and chips. We had bottled cream soda too, which made him gleeful. Because of the rain we couldn’t eat on a bench or anything, so we drove over to Elizabeth Island and parked in their lot overlooking the sound and ate in the car. No pickles came with the takeout, but so many people waste them that I can't blame them for not including them. We got little chip bags with our meal.

My husband got the Angry Bird and I got the chicken salad sandwich. Both were amazing. The Angry Bird has layers of flavor almost a grilled cheese like sandwich but with a delicious amount of spice. The chicken salad had almonds and bacon on a wonderful ciabatta bread. We also got an amazing salted pretzel cookie that you should definitely try.

This place was very disappointing. After reading the reviews we thought we would give it a try while in the area. We ordered online so it was ready and waiting when we got there. The outside tables were full so we took it back to our cars to eat. The ciabatta bread was so hard it literally cut the roof of our mouths and our bottom gums. Seriously, the hardest ciabatta bread I've ever seen. I got The Godfather sandwich, which would had been good, but could hardly bite through the bread to eat. Husband got the club, which also came on the ciabatta bread, which was also as hard as a rock. He said there was very little bacon and the sandwich had no flavor. Our two young boys got the pb&j which was actually good and is the only reason I gave this restaurant 2 starts instead of 1. I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately we will not be returning.

Being a small family run business we strive to make everyone happy and most of the time we do! We are so sorry you didn't enjoy your sandwiches. I found your online order and issued you a full refund. We were extremely busy and your rolls got overcooked. If you had called or come back in we would have happily made you new sandwiches as we want all of our customers to have a great dining experience and would have jumped at the chance to correct our mistake. That was not the quality of food we want to put out. Sorry you had to eat in your car. We have two dining rooms inside as well as our outdoor seating plus there are lots of picnic tables overlooking the water 1 block away!

Because of the reviews on TA we decided to give this place a try on our last day in Corolla, so we drove to Manteo just for lunch and checking out the brewery down the street before the Hungry Pelican. So glad we did. I got a BLT salad and he got turkey sandwich (forget the name). I loved the salad and he loved his sandwich. So glad we gave it a try. I also bought one of their huge snickers cookies for $2. The prices are very fair. I highly recommend this place. And after you eat take a walk around all the really neat shops that are there.

We first discovered The Hungry Pelican during an afternoon visit to Manteo, and this year, during our four-day stay, we ate lunch there twice. Definitely some of the best sandwiches ever! Service is always fast, friendly, and efficient. It has the great homey feel of a local place. We also enjoyed the soup! We’ll be back the next time we’re in Manteo.

I ended up here by accident for a late lunch. I ordered the vegetarian sub with provolone and although simple, it was fabulous. They chopped the tomatoes and cucumbers and toasted the bread. The house dressing was perfect. The young ladies working were quick and efficient. Glad I made my way here.

Everything was perfect! The wait staff are great. And the food!!!!! Poached seafood appetizer, grilled yellowfin tuna, and …. The best homemade coconut cream pie I’ve ever had. I wanted to lick the plate!

We chose the Hungry Pelican based on Trip Advisor recommendations. Good choice. I had chicken salad on a warmed ciabatta bun. It was excellent. The staff was friendly, sandwiches were prepared quickly, and there was plenty of seating.

You do not want to miss this stop! This was recommended to us by an employee at a shop and we are so glad! As vegetarians it can be a challenge some times to find a quick lunch. This shop has such good options. I ordered the sandwich with hummus and cream cheese - so good! My daughter had the gourmet grilled cheese and said it was amazing. She did not even want to share.

Recently went to the hungry pelican because of 4.8 review on google. That was a lie. Run by teenagers, who complained whole time. A club comes with 3 pics of bread not 2. Definitely not worth the $8.25, didn't even get the pickle. Won't be returning.

I will explain the title of my review. I got chicken salad, my wife got grilled cheese. My chicken salad was ok, not great not terrible. My wife said her grilled cheese was great. The salted caramel pretzel was great !

In the heart of Manteo! Parking may be a challenge, but it was worth the hassle.
The deli type sandwiches were good served with chips. I got the Godfather, my son got a BBQ Chicken.
The decor was nice in the restaurant and very family friendly and within most budgets.

Great sandwich spot. My grilled cheese was so good. I love gooey cheese. Kid loved her hot dog. Hubby loved The Godfather. Only negative was no ice in machine and empty iced tea. But that’s super small.
