As a Top Goggle Reviewer, I once again, I must commend "Loyd Have Mercy" restaurant. They have come a long way since 2008 when we happened upon them at their first location. The staff is the friendliest and will remember what you drink and in our case, what we order which is The Best Fried Chicken, Collard greens and carrot souffle' this side of the Heavens.
We are also excited to be part of the makeover that Pastor Lloyds restaurant has won on January 21 & 22 with the New Grand Opening Jan 23rd at 7pm. BUT, dinner Reservations Will Be Required for the Jan 23rd dinner event.
SO, if you've never had this piece of heaven on your radar, plan on adding it because your in for a treat after the January 23rd Grand Re-Opening.

I had heard Loyd Have Mercy had good food before their Restaurant Impossible makeover and boy, were my friends right!
Staff was quick and friendly. Our waitress Bridget was knowledgeable and provided great service.
The food came quickly as well, and my BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich was like a taste explosion! My friend ordered the smothered pork chop with grits and collards and she also loved her meal.
Good value for the cost, as well.
The decor is cute, my only dislike was the crappy old pots hanging in the dining room. It's not visually appealing. They weren't even nice old restaurant pots, just crap that should be thrown away that detract from the rest of the clean lines.
Overall, we loved and it and I plan to bring my husband with me next time.

So we drove past this place last Sunday on our way to Cocoa Beach from the auto train in Sanford. Fascinated by the catchy name I googled it and the reviews were very complimentary. This past Thursday DH drive up and got us the family fried chicken (mixed) with beans and Mac and cheese as our chosen sides. It comes with cornbread as well. Sweet cakey type of cornbread. DH also got himself an order of onion rings to munch on while waiting for the chicken. DH says they were the best he has had. Light crispy, well cooked, and thinly sliced so you can bite off a piece without the whole onion pulling out of the coating. The chicken we had at room temperature for dinner along with the sides. The chicken was lightly coated with excellent seasoning and so moist. Nice big pieces. The sides were very tasty. The beans a little soupy but with good seasoning. We will return to try other items from the menu.

The new menu had Southern Broccoli Salad (picture attached), Had Currants/Sunflower Seeds/Bacon/ Tahini Ranch and Pickled Onions. Cost was $9.00, kind of expensive for what little was in the bowl. My Husband had the Open Faced Pulled Pork BBQ Melt (picture attached)his came with Cajun BBQ/2 Slices Bread/(scoop of BBQ on top of each Bread/Bread & Butter Pickles/Pepper Jack Cheese Sauce/French Fries, Cost $11.00, he did not want the Pepper Jack Cheese Sauce so it was not on top of BBQ. Menu had 7 Different Foods-Slow Braised Oxtail, 3 Piece Fried Chicken, BBQ Meatloaf, Sweet Soy Glazed Grouper and Fried Smothered Pork Chop and Key Lime Pie and Salted Carmel Heath Bar. Other prices for lunch were higher in price. Loyd (owner) came to our table wanting to know how things were. I said that the Menu did not have other items we had before at lunch time while visiting from Tennessee. Probably won't go back. He said he was adding some of the other items for Dinner. We do not eat large meals at Dinner. Wish they had Sandwiches also for Lunch. We loved the Old Menu.

I had the meatloaf with the creamiest mashed potatoes I have ever eaten. My husband had fried chicken with collard greens and the corn bread can surely compete with any from South Carolina. Our friend had the Ox Tail and it was so tender and delicious. The presentation of the plates were upscale, and the service was friendly!!! Iced tea was very good. And we will definitely return

new menu sadly lacking ... tried one old item and one new item Old chicken livers appetizer very good Properly cooked and tasty New item Broccoli salad entree not too good ! onions heavily pickled with vinegar and overpowering, broccoli fresh but not seasoned well ... would not order again and i love broccoli. Menu short and many of favorites no longer available. They strictly enforce lunch cut off time will try one more time but appears to be a new yuppie theme , don't think it will survive

Vacationed in Cocoa Beach but stumbled upon amazing Google reviews when searching for a place to eat. Figured it must be worth the half hour drive with all the five star reviews and one saying it was "literally better than Paula Dean". Wrong.
Let me first start with the GOOD: Clean, nice & simple decor, efficient waiter, and Loyd himself came over to chat with us and genuinely cared if we had enjoyed everything. I fibbed and said yes.
The BAD: Hubby got fried chicken, collards, and mac n cheese. He said everything was fine but he's not the type to complain. I tasted his greens which were very good. I also tasted his mac n cheese which was terrible. Just tasteless white oily shells, not macaroni/elbow pasta with American cheese.
I ordered chicken gizzards (too tough to chew so I ate 3 and threw the rest away), fried green tomatoes (just salted batter over a tomato, no other seasonings like cayenne nor a dipping sauce) fried okra (same sadness) and mashed potatoes (tasted like the dehydrated kind they gave you in elementary school and it was drowned in gravy). I'm from NC and this was nothing like grandma used to cook. If you go, order the greens and nothing else. But that would be wierd.
The UGLY: On top of this, although the restaurant was empty when we arrived, they seated all the newcomers with us up against the wall back to back in the booths when they could've easily social distanced us. Perhaps that's a Florida thing: they think Covid is over? At least all staff were masked. Adding insult to injury, the people seated behind us were allowed to bring their CHIHUAHUA in and lick up the crumbs on their table. I'm not even lying. A DOG was at their table and nothing was said. These were not blind folks who needed a service dog...soooo.... yeah. Gross. I left with an upset tummy due to too much fried foods and too little bang for our buck.
Overall last thoughts: Very sad that we drove so far and I was so disappointed. I love supporting small black owned businesses but I can't reccomend this restaurant. Perhaps if you're from a region of the country where you have no clue what southern soul food should taste like you might give this a try. If you're from the South and know that mac n cheese should be orange elbow pasta, not limp shells with white oily clumps, keep driving. I apologize for the long review; I'm a true foodie! :)

Driving through Titusville I spotted Loyd Have Mercy and remembered that it got good reviews so we stopped. Was a good choice. Not much to look at, but the food was very good, service prompt and helpful. Onion rings were suggested as a side ad were among the best I ave ever eaten, prepared fresh in the kitchen, no frozen as most places. Meatloaf and green beans equally as good. This place is a winner.

I gave Lloyd’s 5 stars in my last review. This was my go to place for soul food with the best catfish around. I was SOOO disappointed today. The decor makeover is lovely but what happened to the menu!!!! Way less choices and since when is soy glazed fish soul food. Catfish isn’t even on the daily menu, dishes on the main menu don’t come with a choice of what used to be their great sides but ‘fancy’ accompaniments. Cornbread is not served with each meal. Your menu is a disaster compared to the old one. This will be off my list of restaurants to visit which is a shame as it is the only soul food restaurant I knew of around here. A real shame.

Our dinner was fabulous. We started with orders of fried green tomatoes and fried chicken livers which we shared with friends. My husband and I had the fried chicken and Brussels sprouts. He ordered the carrot souffle, which I tasted, and I had the green beans. Our friends had the chicken and the short rib special, also excellent. My friend said that the sweet and sour cabbage under the short rib was the best she ever had.
The portions were more than ample; the prices were fair. The staff were friendly and accommodating and scrupulous about safety measures (Covid 19).
This restaurant is a very special treat.

Stumbled upon this place and couldn't pass it up because of the name. Server Anna greeted and sat us down. She was so great to let us sample some ox tail before ordering as it was our first time ever eating ox tail. Delicious it was, but we ordered the pork chops, fried chicken and meatloaf due to Mr Loyd's recommendations. He came out to chat with us and explain the different ways his dishes are served. The sides are wonderfully authentic, too. My fave was the carrot souffle which was more like a dessert than a side dish. All the food was delish, delish, delish, especially the FRIED GREEN TOMATOES w/ their special sauce, and you have to like grits and collard greens in order to order those. The corn muffins were tinier than I expected. We saved room for dessert. I would love to have tried them all, but let my 15 year-old son pick since he wasn't on board to trying new foods and was humoring us by going to this place. He chose the salted caramel chocolate cake. Unbelievably delicious. This restaurant was the whole package - good authentic food, 'mom and pop' atmosphere, and friendly server and owner. Would definitely return. Next time I'll try the sweet and sour Brussels sprouts!

Nice relaxing atmosphere with an assortment of home style items on the menu. Service was supper attentive and friendly.
The sides are certainly a welcomed sight when you compare the variety found at Loyds to just about every other hometown restaurant or chain. Was excited to see liver and gizzards on the appetizer menu - you can get them separate or mixed, lizzards!! They were a bit over breaded for my liking and the breading was a touch too salty (again personal preference, I like it a bit more peppery). The organ meat sizes were great, so we'd certainly order them again. The amount of meat on the short ribs meal was enough for three meals. The open faced pulled pork sandwich was also a multi-meal portion. The sweet potato cake and Key Lime Cake were both tasty, but a bit small for the price. Given that food service supplies/food are up in price, the cost is probably not out of line with today's economic realities.

I loved Loyd Have Mercy's oxtail and rice dish. We ordered takeaway this evening, the first time getting their dishes since the "Restaurant Impossible" "upgrade". So sad. I guess the place itself looks different, but the menu (at least the oxtails and my husband's order of meatloaf) .... not good! He said that the meatloaf was tasteless, plus they forgot his side dish. The oxtails were in some fancy/schmancy "sweet potato puree, sweet and sour crispy brussels sprouts and radish gremolate" as stated in the menu. I'll never order that again! PLEASE bring back the old menu!

If anyone watches the program Restaurant Impossible with Robert Irvine on the Food Network you have seen the episodes where this restaurant was converted from a failing enterprise to a thriving restaurant. The one item Robert did not change was the Southern Fried Chicken. I have to admit that was a great call as it is one of the best I have tried. The sides match up well with the chicken. I would recommend stopping in sometime for either a side down meal or takeout as it is worth it.
